View Full Version : Cyberwar between America and Holland; Cyber-anarchism?

Today the internet was a bloody battlefield.
Amarican anti-spamcompany Spamhaus was under enormous attack by Dutch Hostingcompany Cyberbunker (which got it's name from it's location: an old NATO-bunker).

Experts described it as the biggest cyberattack ever!

Cyberbunker is a hostingprovider which has a lot of clients. Some of those clients are known for sending spam. Spamhaus decided to blacklist and block all of Cyberbunkers clients.
Cyberbunker in it's turn called it's clients together for a chat-debate. Together they managed to send so much data (a DDoS-attack) to Spamhaus and some internetservers that Spamhaus was unreachable and the total American-web was affected by it.
Even internetservices like Netflix were unavailable for a short period.
Some internet-engineers were even worried for a while that mail-servers and online-bankingservices would become unreachable.

More info here (http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/03/27/daily-report-dispute-on-spam-stirs-big-assault-on-the-internet/).

So what do you think of this debacle? Are you pro-law (Spamhaus) or pro-freedom (Cyberbunker)?

What if I hate spam and I hate arbitrary legalism?

You mean, are you pro-people that facilitate one of the most annoying things in the world, i.e spam, or are you anti-spam? I'm anti-spam, thank you very much.

Now, that's what i was trying to figure out.

Yes, my question was kind of biased, like me.

Sure, i hate spam, so you'd think i'd be at Spamhaus' side, BUT they blocked ALL of Cyberbunkers hosted sites. If they just blocked the spamming-ones, i'd be 'meh...', but blocking all sites, even innocent ones? That's just fucked up!

So i'm still leaning towards Cyberbunkers side.

I'm definitely pro-law. Spam is illegal, you know. :crying:

Yeah, but did they need to block all their hosted sites? Even the perfectly legal ones?

I am unequivocally pro-spam: ACCELERATE THE CONTRADICTIONS!
