Has the state of the economy affected user signups?

I had no idea where to put this so I put it here - but, and I don't know if mods can/are willing to say or whatnot, but I was curious if the economy entering the recession 5 or so years ago corresponded with an increase in user signups.

It just seems that since things have taken a dip, interest in the left (and unfortunately, the far right) has increased, and I just thought it'd be interesting to see if that correlation shows here.

A new user said he was radicalized because of the Greek riots, so yeah it might have affected.
