Personally I have 2 cats (typical) and 1 California king snake (not as usual). I'm planning on also getting a False water cobra sometime within the next year, and some Tanzanian giant tailless whip scorpions. What about you guys?

I have a dog in my parent's house.
Where I really live, no. Just the occasional cockroaches.

I can't have any pets due to my line of work. I'm away from home way too often and much. Only certain types of plants, which need little water, survive in my care.
I wish it wasn't so. I'd like to have a dog, or even a cat if it had a nice temper.

All I have is my rat right now. She's awesome and adorable.
Despite the fact that I'm going to work in the veterinary field, I'm actually allergic to most animals. If it was just me, I'd ignore my allergies and get some cats and dogs, but I still live with my parents and my mom is allergic too. When I move out I want at least 2 dogs, a dachshund and a Swedish Vallhund. Plus I want some cats. I have names planned out for all my animals and everything. The dogs would be Chili and Carob, and the cats would be Arthur Dent, Durruti, Sacco, and Vanzetti. [I know those are fucking weird names for cats, but I think that would be cool.] Plus I want more rats, and maybe a turtle. I'm planning on living in the city, so not all of this would be feasible probably, but if I didn't move to the city, I'd also want to keep goats.

my neighboors cats are called blood and honour, it started as a joke but the names stuck (and are quite fitting as they are the terror of the gardens). luckily they respond better to just being called "cat"

I try to do my best to make sure I never have to find out lol. Sometimes the cats will jump on top of the snakes cage and startle him. I take them down and tell them not to do that but they never listen (figures, they're cats). They're real pains in the ass and awfully needy but I love them. One is slightly cross-eyed and has knock knees

I have a dog at my parents place, but its more like my mom's dog then anything, she respects me the least out of anyone in this house. When I move out into a place I can have a dog, I'm getting a miniature daschund and naming him Leon. I had also considered Ernest, for Hemmingway, but Trotsky won out.
Also fuck snakes, they're legless freaks; I just had to say that.

I have a black lab. We saved him from the shelter, he looks pretty normal but he was obviously abused because just a little louse noise and he cowers, when someone walks in(even me) he'll bark and run for it, he is racist towards Hispanics. But once he gets used to you he will play pretty rough with you.

My miniature double dapple dachshund named "Ćiro" (pronounced "Cheero")
He's about seven years old and has been through more shit than most people I know. Currently he is stitched up from a fight with another dog. He'll be fine though.
He's been hit by two cars, been in fuck knows how many fights with both cats and dogs. Always happy to meet new people and a cocky little fellow considering how small he is. I love him to death.

A cat and an older guinea pig. The cat was smaller than the guinea pig when we brought her home, so she is scared of it and runs away when the guinea gets close.
Their names are "Cat" and "Guinea pig", because there's no reason in naming animals that don't respond to anything but the refrigerator door opening.

I watched a TV show on dogs recently, it was pretty interesting. I learned that the vast majority of dog breeds weren't even in existence until the 19th century, when people were obsessed with eugenics and perfection. I guess dogs are really just a giant eugenics experiment, it's really probably the most egotistical thing that humans have ever done, really, is trying to perfect the best little furry devoted slave for their emotional and practical/occupational needs.

Was that on Netflix? I think I watched that to and it honestly blew my mind. People just sitting back and thinking what the perfect dog would be, then making it a reality.

Consider becoming a fish or bird vet. Most vets work with mammals, some with reptiles although unless you work with alligator farms most of those are with pets. But poultry farms and hatcheries need vets just as much as dairy farms or puppy kennels do. Some of those places have a lot of mammals running around, but increasingly less so.
You could even consider becoming an insect vet. Mass rearing of silkworms is a century old tradition, but increasingly people breed beetles and even Madagascan cockroaches. There are also people who handle agriculturally important insects like bees and ladybugs.
Most animals are the same, and at the end of the day it's all about basic principles of immunology, diet and hygiene.

because each one is different (especially the bettas) there are over 15 recognised tail/fin types, and additionally each of our bettas is different in size, coloration and personality from each other. Tesla, for example, is tiny, copper with red finnage and constantly exploring, whereas Colossus is HUGE (almost four inches long) deep sea foam green, and a lazy lunchbox who cruises around slowly like a submarine. the only confusing ones are the female bettas, and that's only because they live in a "sorority" tank together, and over half of them are somewhere on the blue-green color scale. we actually have a rule in place as of a month ago that we're not getting any more blue females, since their tank is saturated with them now. as for the goldfish, they're all different breeds, and besides Stalker and Bakunin, they're all calicos and therefore can be told apart by their spotting patterns.

turtles are WAY harder to care for than you might imagine. you either need a yard you can dig a pond in, or a 75-150 gallon tank that has to be aquascaped in just such a way that they have both plenty of swimming space and plenty of land surface. their land and water both need to be heated independently, they require specific basking lighting, and specific chemistry in their water (not too sterile, not too dirty, and exactly the right "kind" of dirty) they shit like crazy and their shit stinks to unholy hell. some of them refuse pellet food, and therefore require you to buy them feeder minnows and goldfish. above all, remember this: if you get a turtle, it's a lifetime commitment. not their lifetime, yours. the turtle will, in all likelihood, outlive you if it's properly cared for. so before you buy a turtle, answer three questions: 1)can i provide for all its needs, 2)can i commit myself to what amounts to a reptile marriage, and 3)do i know someone who would be able to take my turtle if the responsibility becomes more than i can or want to handle?

Had an American Bulldog but he died about ten years ago. My last partner had a cat, it would poop in the litter box, claw around in it and then come sharpen it's crappy claws on my leg. I think it gave me some sort of infection at one point. Dogs are funner but I'm done with pets in general. It was like having one of my children die (I don't have kids) when the dog died. The vet got about 7k out of me. Had to move into my parents house for a few months to pay the bills. It was all rather traumatic.

We got three dogs, all dachshunds, for hunting purposes. We also have some cats, but we only feed them and pet them occasionally to keep them in the area, as we do have a small problem with mice and rats in the walls (especially during winter).
We used to have two dachshunds (a male and a female), but they got puppies a while back. Two of them, one of which will go to the neighbour and the other we'll keep. We're small-farmers, so we have the right to hunt for small-game and we tend to get some roedeer on the quota as well.
Attached a picture of the puppy we'll be keeping.
