What is your opinoin of the who comrades?I think they are one of the greatest bands ever.they have so much classic material.

I prefer teh early stuff like Pictures of Lilly and My Generation.
Tommy is one of the greatest albums.
Quadrophenia and Who's Next? are pretty good too.

I think they were great. They did so much with only a bass, drums, rythm guitar, and vocals. I love their album "who's next?" and the rythm guitar part fo pin ball wizard. you just don't hear rythm guitar parts like that anymore...great band!

I like their early stuff a lot. The stuff from before mod was totally hippy-fied.

Indeed. They were a great band and John Entwhistle (RIP) was one of my favorite bassists. I particularly like their rock opera's like Quadrophenia (they made a movie about that one that I saw yesterday, its pretty good).

Yeah Sting was in it as I recall. He played the Bell Boy. I forget who else was in it. There is a separate soundtrack release just for the movie too.

The Who is the ultimate representation of rock in the 60's-70's. Come to think of it Guitar Solo's were not a driving force in their music. But they did so much with just rythm guitar. A great bassist (listen to some isolated tracks of Entwistle), rapidfire drums... and Roger... that speaks for itself. Great band. Better than Zeppelin in most respects.

John Bonham is a far better drumer and Jimmy Page is a far better guitarist.
Not to mention that Zeppelin also wrote much better music.
The base guitar in the Who, though, I can admit is perhaps better than that of Led Zeppelin.

you can't compare zepplin and the who. They're two utterly different bands, different styles, and their appeal is completely different. it's mixing apples and oranges.

I agree with nez, you shouldn't really compare the two bands the way you are Victor. And it really is debateable as to which band wrote the better songs.
Sure Jimmy Page is a better guitar player but that doesn't always lead to better music.

You Better You Bet is the best Who song ever, hands down, without a doubt.

That is all.

Better than Zeppelin in most respects.

That hurts...

anyway, I've never really liked The Who too much. Keith was funny and cool as hell, but the band never really seemed to beleive what they were saying. and what's this shit about destroying their instruments and the stage? A waste of beautiful guitars if you ask me.

I didn't realize sgtpepper was the first to compare the who and zeppelin. A bad comparison. If you really want to compare the Who it would be to bands like the Kinks and the early Stones.

additionally, i don't really think there's much good in comparing bands, even if they're similar, by individually comparing their bassists, guitar pickers, and drummers, because there's something to be said for the way they play together.
Speaking of jimmy page.... i recently bought a jimmy page solo cd at a used store for 1$, has anybody else heard of any such things, and if so what do you think?

I was never really into the Jimmy Page solo stuff, I think you paid too much.

However, I did see Page and Plant at the Gorge one year, it was one of the most amazing shows ever. They played some classic Zeppeling tunes. Plus, the Gorge is undoubtedly the coolest place to see a concert in the entire U.S.A. Imagine a huge ampitheater on the edge of the Grand Canyon (but it's actually just a smaller version of the canyon).

was if after his Zeppelin?

Mr Mojo Risin
8th January 2004, 06:49
yes, after his zeppelin, some of it is good blues (alright, decent blues) and some of it is 'trash' metal, with absolutely no dynamic, just the drummer beating the hell out of his kit and screaming for vocals. Oh well, if it falls out of my favor it will make a nice coaster.

yeah the who are great i just love pinball wizard

also iron maiden did a cover of my generation as a b-side not as good though but still its a great song

Mr Mojo Risin
8th January 2004, 07:06
that's odd, because iron maiden is one of the bands i had in mind when i described everything wrong with some of jimmy page's solo songs, although they certainly aren't as guilty of these musical indescretions as, say, twisted sister :o

but if its what you like, then its what you like man.

The Who were one of the defining bands of the 60s - 70s. One of my favourite bands along with Pink Floyd and Zeppelin. I saw the movie Tommy a week back - it's freaking amazing! My personal favourite song is Wont get fooled again, and Sparks.
