If this is true, who do you think did it? Will it repeat and escalate, and if so what do you think will happen?

Well, if I were a more conspiratorial sort, I'd suggest that a certain imperialist country with vested interests in Assad's regime falling did it. Regardless of who did it, US/NATO intervention seems closer at hand.

So a government area was hit.

And the Syrian government knows that this is just the sort of thing Obama needs as an excuse for direct military intervention against them.

Obama is "deeply skeptical" that rebels did this and also claims that syrian government officials "expressed a willingness to use chemical weapons if necessary to protect themselves" an obviously sane thing to say to the people who want to wage war against you to protect the "target" of those chemical weapons.

I really can not think of any reason why the syrian government would do such a thing considering the predictable response from the USA.
And as horrible as it sounds if they would do such a thing they would not do such a poor job at it but would have a body count in the tens of thousands.

I certainly hope this isn't true since in the long run the use of this sort of thing has created birth defects in both Vietnamese and Iraqi children.

I randomly watched a Fox News (lol) report about this recently. Oliver North (lol) was on and he said that he saw no evidence that this was a chemical attack, judging from the video of the victims. The "chlorine smell" reported by someone on the ground from Reuters could've resulted from the aftermath of the detonation of a traditional non-chemical munition, as well. In addition you'd think that a real chemical attack would be much more devastating than what we've seen here.

The situation in the Middle East is a scary one. United States/NATO intervention in Syria is inevitable.

from what i heard it was a pinkish gas but there are some less lethal non-nerve agents that can really fuck people up but not kill people with just a little amount. luckily it hasnt killed many people and it could have just been one shell that was used.

what comes to mind is something like mustard gas(though probably not). though i am hardly a chemical weapons knowitall.
