I know everyone will probably pick The Doors, so I'll go with L.A. Woman instead.

I had to go with a null because the three best are about the same in my opinion. :o

I'm gonna be unoriginal and pick The Doors.

LA Woman is my second favourite though, and Morrison Hotel third.

They're all great.

My favorite Doors album is In Concert but as far as real albums go, I'd have to pick Morrison Hotel.

Null vote
Three-way tie for The Doors, L.A. Woman, and Morrison Hotel.

Strange Days is pretty good, the other two suck.

Okay, what are your favorite songs from each album?

Everyone knows its Morrison Hotel.

I'd like the reasoning behind this choice, if it wouldn't be too much to ask

Other than the fact that I like it? Thinking back "Waiting for the Sun" would probably be my choice.

I like the following songs on Soft Parade:

Soft Parade
Wild Child
Shaman's Blues
Wishful Sinful
Tell All the People
Easy Ride too
I like the horn section in Touch Me

I also like this:
Poor Otis dead and gone
Left me here to sing his song
Pretty little girl with the red dress on
Poor Otis dead and gone

Now I haven't listened to these records in over 10 years or heard the songs either so I'm just going on memory.

Oh and another reason I picked Soft Parade was that Victor did not list "Full Circle" or "Other Voices", which I have somewhere if they weren't lost during a move or stolen by an old acquaintance. Actaully as I recall, I thought those two albums kind of sucked. Anyway I hope my reasoning meets your strict judgement.

anyone heard "absolutely live" its a great album also, it somewhat exposes the way they found success without great musical complexity, but the vibe they get is great, especially in the 'celebration of the lizard.' Also good to keep in mind that ray manzarek took care of the bass line with his left hand on keyboard, which limits their musical options, does anyone know why they didn't play with a bassist in concert like they did in the studio?

by the way, one thing i don't like about 'morrison hotel' is that the songs are like singles, all of them are like little musical thoughts but they never really get going and jam, since the longest song is 4:23, and most are between 2 and 3 minutes long. I prefer an album which stands as a whole rather than as a collection of songs.

Anybody ever heard/seen the "Kids in the Hall" skit called "Doors Fan"? It also appears on a Bruce McCulloch's solo release. Here's a transcript of the skit:

http://teamlizardking.tripod.com/doorsfan.html

It is funny as hell maybe not if you are just reading it but to see/hear it being done is just hillarious.

Here's just a few lines:

Kevin: Well I heard a record of theirs last night at a party...

Bruce: Yeah?

Kevin: ...and I've always liked Love Her Madly.

Bruce: Well, if you become a Doors fan, Love Her Madly is the only song you won't like.

Kevin: Oh right! [Looking through the record bin eagerly] I guess I should start with the Greatest Hits?!

Bruce: Hey! Greatest Hits are for housewives and little girls!

Some of ones on there, the authentic singles, like "Roadhouse Blues" and "You Make Me Real," can't hold a candle to the others.

I see what your saying about it not really fitting together as an album, except for "Peace Frog" and "Blue Sunday." The seem to run together on my cassette.

the kids in the hall skit looks really funny.

I can't believe there is even disagreement. the doors is absolutely the best studio album. two words- THE END. this song alone is worth the entire morrison hotel album. not to mention notables like back door man, break on through, crystal ship, alabama song, and end of the night. no fucking contest.

I would put absolutely live at my number two spot, though live in detroit is pretty close.

OK it was bad, but I bought it bcause on the same tape was a load of old Doors footage. Come on it is a laugh, if very innacurate.
