Ancient mummies had heart disease, according to study, so heart disease is now not linked to fast food, alcohol or cigarettes. So quit blaming capitalism ya'll.

It's probably a condition that can develop without an unhealthy lifestyle, but which an unhealthy lifestyle can exacerbate.

A sedentary lifestyle would certainly be worse than eating fast food often (I'm one to talk).
Who knew, sitting around waiting to die means you die faster!

Saying that this find proves that heart disease and unhealthy eating are not linked is a bit like saying lung cancer and smoking have no link because non-smokers get lung cancer.

Honestly, I'm pretty skeptical that the two aren't related. I think things like fast food would just make somebody develop heart disease faster. It is linked to clogged arteries and such, and as we know that comes from excess fatty foods.

Exactly but this is a boon to fast food companies and right wingers who balk at the need for a change in eating habits.

if you dig deeper in the study you will see that most mummies where rich (welcome back fatty foods) and that for the poorer mummies they suspect open fires in their houses where a main reason (and thats the return of cigarettes). the only ppl who should feel fucked by this are the primmies...

Researchers say that suggests heart disease may be more a natural part of human aging rather than being directly tied to contemporary risk factors like smoking, eating fatty foods and not exercising.

Researchers can be horribly misquoted, especially in pieces like this.
Of course as bodies age they become more susceptible to everything bad, but to say ancient mummies having heart disease suggests it may not be tied to things with a scientifically verified link is just silly, and promoting the idea has to have behind it a bunch of ignorance or an insidious agenda.

I like when you have studies like this that get completely misappropriated to suit a current idea. When you have the kind of crap journalism/aggregator like yahoo news that appeals to the lowest denominator meet with science, you get really crappy articles.

Plus Yahoo recently awarded fucking Jenny McCarthy (http://shine.yahoo.com/healthy-living/look-stars-7-celebrity-activists-making-world-better-180700618.html) for her ... 'autism work'. So it's hard to take Yahoo seriously.

But don't forget that they had high-fat foods, alcohol and wood fire smoke, back then, all of which have been linked to cancer/heart disease.

Just because it's possible to get heart disease and clogged arteries without fast food and cigarettes, doesn't mean that fast food and cigarettes don't increase your chances of getting said diseases. I'm highly skeptical that fast food and cigarettes don't cause these diseases.

Since yahoo says it, I guess its true?
