Has anyone (in the UK) made Simnel Cakes for their mother this year?

We don't have another "Mother's Day" in the UK, although I don't know of anyone who celebrates the day in the religious sense. Nowadays I think it's mostly an excuse for shops/restaurants/etc to make more money, but my mum appreciates cards (for any special day, not just Mother's day) so I got her a card from me and a card from my son, and made her a little make up bag out of some material I'd been saving for a rainy day. My mum also helped my son to choose a card and a little cuddly toy for me. It's nice to be shown that you're appreciated as a mother because it can feel like quite a thankless job sometimes, but I also think that people should show their appreciation for what others do all year round, without the need for a holiday to prompt them.
