This maybe local politics for me, but it is still news and politics.

Now she has a bit of political capital when she got nearly 30% of the vote against Speaker of the House Frank Chopp. Socialist Alternative's Kshama Sawant might announce next week to run to against one the Democrats in the council.

Who Should a Socialist Challenge on the City Council?

Kshama Sawant is the Socialist Alternative candidate who earned a surprisingly strong 29 percent—that is, strong for someone running as an out'-n-proud Socialist—when she ran last year against Democratic House Speaker Frank Chopp (D-43). And this year? The economics instructor at Seattle Central Community College will make an "important announcement" next Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the "Seattle City Council," she says, which makes it pretty clear that Sawant will run against one of the four council members defending their seats this year.

Who do you think Sawant should run against: Sally Bagshaw, Richard Conlin, Nick Licata, or Mike O'Brien?

I hope she gets to be the president some day and can complete the permanent revolution.

So basically you do not understand why or how socialists run in elections? Ok. Noted.

I've made a thread a few days ago confirming her run for city council. Merge?

Actually no. She is running to promote activism. Also if somehow she becomes president (very less likely) Socialists need to take control of congress. The current system for Federal government is only designed for Democrats & Republicans.

If you want change you have to start locally. You need a base to build a mountain.

Nah, he's just being snarky. The point I would make, like Kshama makes in the video, is that elected positions doesn't mean much unless there's a movement on the streets behind it. That tends to be the way we are elected in the first place, not so much to fight for socialism inside the parliament but to sue our positions to help build a movement outside of it.
