While I appreciate this OP-ED for trying to counter some of the misconceptions of racism being imbedded in certain induviduals or even regions rather than being much deeper in American society, it was also totally frustrating to read.

These incidents may be "embarrassing" for middle class people, professionals and professors, but it's also everyday life for poor and working class blacks and no one gives a shit. When the official policy on the NYPD is "stop and frisk" random youth and black people and immigrants, then should it be such a freaking mystery why some shop-clerk felt empowered to do his own stop-and-frisk?
