As a Maoist, I personally praise the idea (as well as event) of the GPCR, and believe it to be the farthest advance toward communism in history.

Thoughts? Opinion? Good or Bad? Do you agree with it's theory/idea but not how it was carried out? I want to hear from Maoists and non-Maoists, or even anti-Maoists.

Thanks!

I know so little about Mao and Maoism, but from what I heard a lot of people died as a result of this. Can you please verify this for me?

TheGodlessutopian made a good point in the other thread that some of the motivations behind it were justified. However, nothing justifies the destruction and savagery which took place in practice, and I still view the Cultural Revolution as one of the greatest tragedies in history. And while Mao may not have approved of everything that took place, it should be noted that he loved the fact that people compared him to the notorious Qin dynasty emperor who burned books and buried scholars alive, and he boasted (http://books.google.ca/books?id=C_6fpZJIGrYC&pg=PA251&dq=mao+burning+scholars&hl=en&sa=X&ei=y8A7UeD7LOPC0gHjj4CgDA&ved=0CDEQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=460%20scholars&f=false) that he was even worse.

It's a shame you didn't read the next page which undermines what you're trying to say.

Iīm sympathetic to it. It didnīt go far enough though and in the end proved to be a failure.

My .02 cents; the cultural revolution ultimately failed and led to China's subsequent move to all out capitalism and market economy.
