BBC News - FARC Capture (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3365767.stm)
Colombia has announced the capture of a top commander of the main left-wing rebel group, the FARC.
Officials said Ricardo Palmera, better known as Simon Trinidad, was arrested in Ecuador in a joint operation with the Colombian and US authorities.
Ricardo Palmera, the most senior FARC member to be captured, played a key role in failed talks with the Colombian Government in 2002.
Analysts say his arrest is a coup for Colombian President Alvaro Uribe.

I don't really know much about FARC but a leftist guerilla based movement could be good if implemented properly and they stop kidnapping hikers.
Analysts say his arrest is a coup for Colombian President Alvaro Uribe.
Could you go into a bit more detail on this please I am a bit lost?

Don't worry about the "capture." It is really a spy game just you watch. You think this guy just let himself get caught? Do you think he is stupid? The FARC are investing in this "capture" and the eventual payoff will be great in terms of successful disinformation, etc.

So what do you suggest for the funding?
The FARC is the world's biggest guerilla group. It contains 15000 guerillas. That is like a helluva more than Fidel had in Cuba in 1959.

If anything, I think FARC and ELN are being too soft. This is a revolution, not a tea party. They need to get out there and destroy capitalism once and for all. Does anyone know what the difference is between FARC and ELN anyways?

True FARC has resorted to some pretty brutal tatics and they should be condemned for their colaboration with Colombian drug cartels, but one has to remeber that the government of Colombia has resorted to equally as brutal methods and that the upper class continues to sponsor death squads to intimidate and murder the civillian population in an attempt to keep them under their control.
