Just as the title of thread says, I honestly want you all to have the chance to see your political/economic philosophies put into practice. No system is perfect but on the economic side, capitalism seems to be the fairest we have at the moment, or atleast the most efficient. I'd like to see govts of the world release land to people seeking to prove their theories of social organization and economic systems so that we can all see which really can provide the most equitable and sustainable system for mankind.

There are organizations like the Sea Steading Institute that are trying to make this happen, but it seems a bit far fetched. What system would you put into practice if given the chance? And remember... Youre starting from scratch. The land is now yours with a large population of fellow travelers. No revolution to be had.

I'd hardly call a system wherein the vast majority of the world's productive forces are under the control of a tiny minority of the world's population a fair one.

Also, efficient for what purpose? Making a profit? That's kind of the problem.

Most magnanimous of you, but how do you imagine such a thing would come to pass in reality?

How so?

Insufficient data. How many people and what skills do they have? How much land and what is the quality of it? After answering those questions, we then have to consider the geopolitical situation, since any kind of socio-economic system that I and people who generally agree with me would set up is likely to be perceived as a threat.

We have had our philosophies put into practice: the Paris commune, anarchist Spain, etc.

lol at people working finger to the bone for their entire life in poverty while some who haven't lifted a finger live in absolute luxury being regarded as "fair".

Idealism is fun to play with and can be interesting when it comes to thought experiments, but communism requires the context of material history and the working class. It cannot really be put into practice in a vacuum where we start from scratch and it certainly cannot be enacted by one person. That's part of its beauty and force.

No revolution to be had.that's nice sentiment and all, but as they say, this will happen when pigs fly. Capitalism won't let Zapatistas or hippie squatters thrive let alone give a huge swath of land willingly to workers. Capitalism was FOUNDED through pushing people off common lands and essentially privatizing the commons... They would never voluntarily reverse this process.

If you want some philosophical microcosm version, then the test would actually be: two communities of equal size, one where people collectively organize from scratch and one where there are no laborers but everyone gets a plot of land but has to provide their own tools from scratch by themselves. One would develop into a sort of commune (not communism, but more like a big communal farm or early band societies where everyone pitches in and no one has institutionalized power over other). This is the way people lived for most of our existence, so we know it is possible, even if it ranges from abundance to hardship based on natural conditions or subjective mistakes).

On the other hand a community where everyone has a plot of land, there is no labor supply, and everyone is competing with each other has also existed: jamestown and Roanoke and it led to cannibalism (edit: that is it led to starvation due to lack of cooperation and then that led to cannibalism) and in Jamestown was "fixed" when autocratic control was taken and all the entrepreneurs were conscripted to do labor until ships from England brought in new supplies of settlers to do the labor for these enterprising fellows.

Well not really. We need a global change with workers in control of both production, distribution and surplus if there is any not just on a small national or regional scale but global. Even then it will take time after the economic system is changed for society to change as I would assume it would take time and continued effort for the social roles and mentality capitalism created to wither away. Spain, as far as Orwell describes it, made a great effort to immediately change everything but it was kinda a utopian effort isolated with high expectations that as soon as workers had control all of our social roles would change. I don't think it's a matter of BANG ZAP(!) and we're there if you know what I mean :) We did see short term significant change in those small scale attempts though. Not a negative thing by any means.

Please do explain to me how capitalism is "fair". I don't see anything "fair" about a system where the vast majority are exploited for the benefit of a few. Also, don't forget all those starving people, many whom are starved because their home countries are drained of resources by the capitalists.

How would this even prove anything? Practically any system can work on a small scale. Hell, even fascists would set up their own communities where all non-whites or whatever would be banned from entering and it wouldn't do much since those people would just move to another community.

This is Revleft. I think you know which kind of system I want.

If people are removed from modern society and placed in the wild they would begin organizing according to the material conditions there, not according to whatever ideals they brought with them. A project like this assumes an idealist instead of materialist worldview.
