An Idaho man has been charged with assaulting a minor after he allegedly uttered a racial slur and slapped a 2-year-old boy who cried on a Delta plane as it began the final descent into Atlanta, court papers show. Reached by phone Friday, Joe Rickey Hundley of Hayden, Idaho, declined to comment to CNN and referred inquiries to his attorney. The attorney couldn't be immediately reached for comment Friday.
Delta Air Lines is cooperating with the federal investigation into the altercation between two passengers, spokesman Paul Skrbec said. "We apologize for any inconvenience this caused for the passengers onboard," he said.
The boy's mother, Jessica Bennett, 33, of Minnesota told the FBI that she and her son were seated in row 28, seat B, on February 8 on Delta Flight 721 that originated in Minneapolis, according to an FBI agent's affidavit filed in U.S. District Court in Atlanta this week. The boy began crying because of the altitude change, and his mother tried to soothe him, court papers said.
Then Hundley, who was seated next to the mother and son, allegedly told her to "shut that ('N word') baby up," according to court documents.
Hundley then turned around and slapped the 2-year-old in the face with an open hand, which caused the child to scream even louder, the affidavit said.
The boy suffered a scratch below his right eye, court papers said.
Other passengers on the plane assisted Bennett, and one of them heard the slur and witnessed the alleged assault, the affidavit said. The plane landed at Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International.
The charge of simple assault on someone under age 16 carries a prison sentence of one year, court papers said.
Hundley has since been suspended from his job pending the investigation.
"We understand that authorities are investigating the recent behavior of one of our business unit executives while on personal travel. The allegations are disturbing and are contradictory to our values," said Al Haase, president and CEO of AGC Aerospace & Defense, Composites Group.
In 2007, Hundley pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge filed in Virginia, according to court records.

I don't know, the sentence "Shut that nigger child up!" sounds fairly racist to me. Of all the adjectives he could have used to describe the child, some of which are fairly relevant, like "noisy" or "irritating", or [EXPLETIVE DELETED], he chose "nigger", as if race is the single most important thing about someone. And of course, he used an offensive term too.

My post may have sounded like I was saying that most white people who use the word "nigger" are not racist; I believe the reverse to be true, that most white people who use the word are racist (which I actually stated in my post where I said that I believe that most of the people who called me nigger, spic, porch monkey, etc. are racist). If you read my original post carefully you will detect a hint of sarcasm hidden in there. I was trying to point out exactly how racist the man who slapped the child actually is. I was trying to classify him as a racist by giving him the most possible benefit of the doubt by suggesting that there could be an instance where a white person utters "nigger" in a non-racist context, but it is impossible for that to happen while hitting an African-American person. Hence, my inclusion of my personal experience where I was being assaulted while being called "nigger." There could be no way the man hitting me while calling me a "nigger" was not a racist, but there could be a way (however unlikely) that he was not a racist if he just used the word "nigger" without assaulting someone.

My wife passed away 3 years ago, but she was half Indian (from India) and half Chinese. My mother was white and my father was black, both were Cuban. Everyone usually thinks my oldest son is Mexican, he is a dark bronze color and does look Mexican. My two younger sons have lighter skin but they look much more Chinese; it is because of their I eyes, I guess. Most people are usually surprised to find out that I am half white. My father was very, very dark. I did inherit my mother's green eyes, though.

You are right about scumfront. I have taken a cursory glance at the site maybe three or four times in the past 2 years and it is sad to see how many people are registered racists. The content of the posts is even more depressing. I believe many people are not aware of the sheer amount of racists out there.
