Every now and then I check out "best of" lists for recommendations and finally found The Stone Roses(1989), a gem that I missed at the time. Here is the most ambitious "best" list I've seen; and I'm guessing you can't go wrong with most of them:

The cover art of their self-titled album is a reference to May '68: lemons to combat tear gas and the French tricolour on the left.

I like'em. The chorus to I am the resurrection might be one of the best choruses of all time. The first album is good as hell, and the second is... Not as good, but still good.

I heard fools gold in San Andreas and was just hooked. Had the album on repeat for a year.

Made a great album or two with great written songs influencing a lot my early ideas at 15/16 (the taking flags off of people at gigs by Brown impressed me and made me think when I read about it in the John Robb book).. I don't understand 'taking flags from people'?

When I was about 12 or 13, this was an important album for me that opened up hundreds of other bands. One record that really got me into music. It's brilliant.

Bye Bye Badman also references it:

The bassist in an interview once said they were four little communists mostly in jest probably. However, at least the singer was once close to a Trot outfit and may have even been a member for a short while.
Yep he and Squire (lead guitarist) were in the SWP during the mid eighties, and then the Workers' Revolutionary IIRC.

I wanna be adored is one of my all time favourite songs. What a tune.

I love the Stone Roses. Funny enough I bought their 'Best of' album just yesterday. Love Spreads is amazing.
