Hey, I'm Matt. I'm a junior in high school. I self identify as a Communist with Trotskyist leanings, and I may develop into a full Trot soon, if I get around to reading more of his stuff. I'm pretty much alone politically, there are no Communists, Socialists or even Social Democrats where I'm at. I'm here to learn more and to get more confidence so I can debate my ideas eloquently. I'm going to go to college to be a history/political science teacher, and hopefully not get caught trying to poison kids' minds with Communism! Just kidding, I will have integrity and try not to let my politics sway my lessons.

So yeah, what's up RevLeft?

Welcome :)

If you have political questions, you can ask them in the Learning forum. That's why it's there after all!

If you have questions about your account, don't hesitate to send me a PM or ask here.

As for your isolation: I can recognize where you're at. My advise is to just debate ideas with people, I'm sure there are some leftwingers around. Also, young people tend to be more open to such ideas.

And yes, why not teach about what you believe in? There is no such thing as impartiality, as "being impartial" is defined by the status quo.

What attracts you into Trotskyism? Any particular groups you're considering to be interesting?

Why, after all it's easiest to get them young? ;)1

But seriously speaking, welcome to Revleft, nice to see another fellow trotskyist. Revleft is a good resource for learning debating skills, so you have come to the right place. :)

It's also a good place to connect with members of different organisations for the purpose of joining, when one feels ready to take that step.

Most people in my school are conservatives due to their upbringing, there are a few liberals but there is nobody beyond that in terms of political views. Also, my American history teacher has basically said that the Cold War was Communism versus "Freedom", and most people either eat that shit up or don't care. So yeah, I have no one politically close to me here, to my knowledge at least.

Well, it's hard to go directly in to university, the only place where I'd be able to teach in such a way. I foresee a problem with parents if I speak of Socialism as if it isn't "fuck them damn Commies".

Well, I could be swayed to Left Communism or Anarcho-Communism but my major disagreement with Marxist-Leninists is that I disagree with the SIOC concept. I think because of it, Communism was never able to spread to Western Europe and the United States. So that has pointed me towards Trotskyism, though that is not set in stone. What will determine whether I become a Trotskyist, Left Communist or even an Anarcho-Communist is whether I agree or disagree with the vanguard party idea. I might join the IWW when I graduate from college, and I don't know about a political party. I will know when the time comes, I guess

Now now, I didn't say I was a Trotskyist. I have yet to take a side on the whole vanguard party thing. On one hand, I doubt that we could have a revolution and successful Socialist society without some kind of oversight, but I also wonder if the vanguard party will inherently be corrupted like under Stalin and Deng. I will have to ponder and see each side before making a judgement. I am definitely not a Marxist-Leninist however, so no worries right? ;)1

Hello there! I'm a dinosaur, you can debate me and I promise I won't turn into a fossil. Seriously though, welcome to the forum. I'm not really a dinosaur, sadly.
