I think much of the music appearing after the first punk/hardcore bands are more interesting musically than punk and hardcore itself. I don't listen to that much post punk/new wave, but some of my favorite bands could be considered as such.

What are revleft's opinion on post punk? What are people's favorite bands etc?
Youtube videos with music is very much welcomed too.

Joy division is an obvious choice. But a very good one nonetheless

Joy Division and Talking Heads are the only new wave/post punk bands that i listen to. I do enjoy their music a whole lot though, and i will definitely explore those genres more.

Echo and the Bunnymen, Sisters of Mercy, Killing Joke, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Jesus and Mary Chain, Southern Death Cult. All favourites of mine in the 1980s.

worked a new-wave/postpunk festival last week, didnt care much for the big names there like echo & the bunnymen or the chameleons but fehlfarben was really cool;

other stuff one could possibly group under post-punk that i like;

Ton Steine Scherben (actually from 1970 so more proto-punk but a big influence on the neue deutche welle)

UwE8dlRnsio

einsturzende neubauten (early industrial band)

JZ4Q9_bDwLY

the EX (groundbreaking dutch anarcho-punk band that turned towards incorporating jazz and Ethiopian music)

Well, no, the Bunnymen's heyday was around 1984 in my opinion, though they were great live when I saw them in '88. Dreadful in 2007 though. I'd say, you were probably 25-30 years too late.

Zounds fucking rip.

Anyway, if you're in to Gang Of Four and want to break up the sausage party, dig The Au Pairs.

Ugh, I just don't get Joy Division.I'm with you Mza. I gave Joy Division/New Order my best shot because my cousin lived for them(flew to Europe to see them); but still think they are lifeless and depressing. What are we missing:confused:?

Oh, I'll agree with you about New Order. Dreadful. A clap-along version of 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'? No thanks.

But Joy Division were one of the most influential bands of the late '70s and into the early 80s. Almost all the bands I like from that period were started by people who wanted to sound like Joy Division.

I've listened to them a few times, and I like Disorder, and after that it turns into the same boring song. I've never listened to New Order though.

i'm obsessed with post-punk, minimal wave, cold wave, all that stuff, particularly the colder, more minimalist synth stuff.

Million Dead were rather good, though I guess they're more post-hardcore than post-punk, whatever the difference really means.

The difference is that post-hardcore is nothing like post-punk at all.
