Income inequality in China

Can anybody point me to an economics source - preferably related to Development Economics - that points out why it matters that income inequality has become so pronounced in China?

I'm probably failing to understand what you're trying to say. Isn't economic inequality a bad thing anywhere? I thought that was the point of this website ;)
