Hello RevLeft!
As you can tell I'm an anarchist. I'm still learning about it, but I consider myself an anarchist because I want to see coercive hierarchies abolished and direct democracy established. I'm still a teenager and in high school, I'm sixteen years old, but I consider myself mature. I live near NYC.
At first I was a Constitutionalist Conservative. I thought the U.S.A was the best country, and that it deserved to be loved. I was xenophobic, patriotic, and hated anything that smelled of left-wing politics. However, I transitioned away from the right-wing. How this occurred was I went on Reddit's /r/Anarchism, and subsequently /r/Anarchy101, I asked questions, and lots of them. The answers I've received were very helpful and simple to understand. Here's the weird thing though, it made more sense to me than Conservatism. My mind boggled in hundreds of spots. I debated with myself constantly from that point on.
After a few nights, I came to the conclusion that I was indeed an anarchist. I wanted to abolish all hierarchies which were tools of the ruling classes to oppress the others. I decided that the reactionary right was wrong in their blind patriotism, and that I myself ignored certain facts about the US's oppressive and imperialist history. Such as our "great forefathers" giving only voting rights to male, white landowners, and our meddling in foreign affairs in Chile, Angola, etc. Well, now all that's behind me, and I'm here now preaching for the end of capitalism and the state.
Thanks for reading, and I hope I make some new friends here.

Welcome :)
When you say you "debated with yourself", I guess you mean introspection?
Anyway, are you clear yet on what variant of anarchism you agree with with? If not, there is of course the Learning forum to ask all that stuff :)

Welcome. The forum needs anarchists as they are apparently dwindling in number.
I debated with myself constantly from that point on.
Has your mom ever walked in and caught you debating with yourself? Mine has. Really embarrassing :blushing:

I think anarchists are a minority among the leftist crowd as it is. Regarding debating with myself, my father overheard me one time I was debating with myself. It was embarrassing thinking aloud and having people hear you.
Welcome :)

Yes. That's what I meant. Regarding variants of anarchism, I'm not sure about variants just yet, but I have The Conquest of Bread and I know of a book which goes over anarcho-communism in a more basic manner also written by Petr Kropotkin. It's somewhere out there, but I can tell what I'm not. Not exactly a big fan of anarcho-transhumanism, anarcho-pacifism, or religious subgroups of anarchism. So that's good enough for now. I can decide later.

I'm surprised myself, but I was getting to like anarchism as a movement against oppression a month or two before I changed since I liked (and still like) what the anarchists are doing in Greece. I'm guessing learning about the Greek anarchists and siding with them in the anarchists versus police and fascists street skirmishes gradually normalized the idea of anarchism to me, but I didn't believe their opposition to capitalism and the state at first. Those were the two main things I was having trouble understanding the reasons for such the vehement opposition against those two forces, then I realized that no matter what a sheet of paper says, or whether or not everyone has an
"opportunity" to "get rich", the state and capitalism will always exploit people, and who will have the power? The ones with the most money and influence, on both sides of the big two.
And to the rest of you, thanks for the greetings and hellos. :)

Welcome,
Don't try to ideologically pigeonhole yourself into a tendency or pretty package, just seek out what's there, find what resonates with you and see what makes most sense to you and the world you inhibit.

Keep doing that, its a good thing to constantly be introspective and question yourself and what you (or others) think and hold sacred :)

I don't really try but I tend to identify with one group or another whose views are closest to mine. Anarchism happens to be the closest to my own ideals. I definitely have the libertarian side in me, and I'm still learning about anti-capitalist thought. As for introspection, I'll keep on it. Thanks for the websites too, I've never heard of prole before. I'll check it out.
