Dear Revleft members, I am from India. India is being portrayed as an emerging superpower, yet there are internal contradictions within the nation itself. On one hand a class of wealthy middle & rich class is growing, yet on the other hand majority of the people have to face poverty and very low standards of living in terms of International socio-economic standards. Caste, Class and Social divisions based on Gender are an all-pervasive feature of India. We still have Poverty, Crime, Racial and Caste based discriminations, anti-girl child culture[both in Urban & Rural regions] & liberalism as a dominant ideology in the State, Education institutes and Workplaces.

Yet, the Left has nationally been unable to utilize these phenomena for their political benefit in India. Except the state of West Bengal, where the CPI-M remained in power for consecutive 34 years, the Left, in all its forms has been unable to influence the socio-political fabric of nation. Still, the state of Kerela has LDF-Left Democratic Parties{led by the CPI-M} as the ruling party. Kerela has performed extensively well on Human Development Indicators front as well as on social development of the its people. Unfortunately, the CPI-M lost power in West Bengal in last Assembly elections.

An year ago, I had to face an Anarcho-capitalist, who subscribed to the Austrian school of Economics. He has achieved sober recognition from the affiliated Institutes in US promoting this ideology in economics. My discussions and debates with him, though for a short period of time led me to study Karl Marx and his works, in order to understand his ideas thoroughly. Despite his efforts to portray KM as an evil socialist, anti-liberty, character-less monster, I was not convinced with his assertions and decided to study Socialism and KM myself.

Today, am studying KM and related literature through self-study, this while pursuing mainstream Economics as a specialization in my Masters Degree. I aim to enhance my knowledge about Marx's works and Philosophy, and contribute positively to its further advancement. I am more academic than Political, in the sense that I believe in developing and stressing Theoretical developments before applying them through politics. Blind politics, without solid theoretical background, I believe, is doomed to fail. I wish to do so for the rest of my life.

All the members, who can spare some time and write something about their methodology of studying KM and other Leftist literature, are warmly welcomed to send me a private message here on Revleft.

Wishes.:)

Welcome :)

What I found helpful in studying Marx's works is to have one or more peers who are studying it with you. That way you can reflect your findings with others and motivate eachother, etc.

Thanks for the positive feedback comrade. Apology for the late reply, was engaged in some urgent task. I shall now be putting quality time here on revleft. Hope to get positive involvement on various theoretical issues as & when they're posted.

I'd like to know-
1). How can I begin a thread in the forum?
2). And what is the difference between an article and a thread in forum? Reply whenever you have time.
-- Warm Regards.

1. Just press the http://www.revleft.com/vb/revleft/buttons/newthread.gif button.
2. Articles aren't used very often, but are for for longer pieces, not so much discussions.
