Very good documentary. It's shocking how the media promotes them without shame. Pay attention comrades, we will be looking at these people thru rifle sights soon enough.

As much as I love the attention. I think we should stick to the topic.
How does the left combat such a movement? How can it organize and attack the fascists both ideologically, as well as physically in a manner that will disable their abilities to spread their hatred? The fascists are obviously ready to kill to get their message across. The left has been put up against a wall it seems. The fascists have the police backing to assert their presence in the street, and have been even accepted as representatives for Human Rights Council (http://greece.greekreporter.com/2013/01/23/golden-dawn-gets-eu-human-rights-seat/) by the EU. The battle lines are being drawn.
EDIT: I didn't know my first comment would be getting so much love. I'm guessing you all would be quite happy with lining up a rifle to the fascist pigs. :D

We're going to have to destroy the greek state to do so, I don't think it's possible to single one out without abandoning revolution.
Either way, fight fire with fire. Workers must mobilize to fight a struggle that ultimately leads to the creation of a revolutionary state, the dotp. Along the way, the corpse of fascism and the ashes of the state may very well become a beacon for revolution.

All right-winged people in Greece have been far-right from the very fucking begining. Now that GD has power they can throw away their mask of being just patriots and show that they are vicious killers for no reason at all.
These people are sick and they make me sick. They are people who betrayed the antifascist movement in the 40's because they wanted to survive. NOT LIVE AS FREE MEN BUT SURVIVE LIKE THE FUCKING ANIMALS THEY ARE. The GD members are the people that was fighting Greece and now they come like the liberators of Greece.
I just can't stand seeing all these fascists going around and getting support for who they are while I can't even say that I'm left just imagine what would happen if I said I'm a communist. I'm telling you the WWIII is coming (oh my god why? like we have an economic crisis and the capitalists have to reboot the whole fucking world) and it's not going to be pretty....
I'm crying on the inside...

Its worth noting that in the wake of this economical crisis, right-wing nationalism is on the increase practically everywhere in Europe. In Western Europe it seems the main target is islam and muslims and the so called "islamization of europe".
In certain Eastern European countries the main targets seem to be romani people. In Hungary, for example, members of the ultra-nationalist and national socialist Betyarsereg ("the army of outlaws") can be found in romani communities with large metal whips, scaring the people living there. Other examples include assault and plain murder. Another time, Betyarsereg decided to practically lay siege to an entire town with many romani residents, which lead to the police having to set up road blocks and checkpoints at entrypoints to this city where one must identify oneself. I believe these still exist to this date.
It is worth noting that this neo-nazi movement stands hand-in-hand with the right-wing ultra-nationalist political party Jobbik, from whom we hear proposals to create a lists with names of "jews who pose a threat to the national security of Hungary". They are the third largest party in Hungary, with 47 seats in parliament. Here is a picture of some members of Jobbik: http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0gEw9g3gFpb6X/610x.jpg Remind you of anyone? Hmm.
All of this begs the question: what should we do? How should we, as Daschund (you'll always be ВАЛТЕР to me) puts it, "organize and attack the fascists both ideologically, as well as physically in a manner that will disable their abilities to spread their hatred"? How should we combat the spread of these vile ideologies? How do we keep impressionable youth from being sucked in? And so on. I feel this is a discussion that needs to be held, because from where I am standing, it seems as if we are completely incapable in responding to this threat in most european countries at least partially effectively. This is an issue that needs addressing, and it is our duty as communists to address it, as we have throughout history.

I'm just going to go ahead and say it. We need militancy. We need to be prepared to meet this very real threat head on. They attract the youth with their militancy and their talk of being "against the system" when in reality they are nothing more but "the system" in crisis mode. I've talked to youths who were heading in that direction, all they see is what is on the surface. The fascists are taking action. They attack their enemies, while the left seems to be on the defensive all the time. As my old boxing coach said "Defense doesn't win fights, it just keeps you in them." We need to take the fight to the enemy, otherwise when the time comes to actually fight we will be outnumbered and outgunned. The left seems to rely too much on the people "figuring it out on their own" due to the crisis of capitalism. We forget that most people haven't read the "Manifesto", "Wage Labour and Capital", "Capital", etc.

I am not very well versed in the Greek situation, however from what I have heard it seems that the Golden Dawn was/is out helping the greeks who had been affected by the economical crisis, everything from collecting and donating clothes, to setting up soup kitchens and offering homes and such. Is there any truth to this? Has the left done anything similiar?
I feel like that type of community organizing or whatever you want to call it would immensely benefit the popularity of the left. I seem to recall something similiar happening in America during the era of the black panthers, where they would offer every child breakfast or something similiar... If memory serves me right, this skyrocketed their popularity.
I think we should also learn our newer members on how to effectively attack the fascists ideologically, I suspect if our arguments toward them are crappy or otherwise lackluster, it increases sympathies toward them. Our ideological attacks must be brutal and utterly destructive. I have held this view for quite a long time now, the internet is a very important battlefield, and right now, especially in the country that I am in, it is almost completely dominated by fascists, racists, neo-nazis and such.
