View Full Version : Anyone up for Minecraft?

I've had some some really bad luck recently in terms of finding decent servers that I can join, so I was thinking of starting a private survival adventure with some like-minded folk from here.
I've got Hamachi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamachi_%28software%29) and an itching to colonise a superflat world, who's interested?
In case I don't get a reply before I go to bed, anyone who's still interested later on can try and catch me any time between midnight and 4pm GMT over the next few days.

You know, lately I've been thinking that it would be fun trying to create a planned economy on minecraft. That might be worth experimenting with. Xbox or computer?

27th January 2013, 04:02
Computer, of course. My connection is only good for small amount of players.
The economy would depend on the resources we decide to make available - I was thinking of starting a Superflat (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Superflat) world, which tend to have few trees and thus less wood.

I'm up for it if your server allows pirated versions of minecraft.

I think what's more important is the version number of your Minecraft installation. Mine is 1.4.7, what's yours?

I'd probably be down with it, although I've only played Minecraft a handful of times.

Sounds good. I bought the game to play with my brother and some of his friends about 6 months ago, I ended up running their server but they never play the thing any more despite forking out for a 32 slot hamachi network. The bastards.

I'm up. We going to give names?

Sure. I used to play it a lot and have enough free time.

No need for names. If everyone who wants to play grabs a hold of that Hamachi program I mentioned in my first post, then we can start playing over a virtual LAN as soon as we've agreed on a starting time.

I would love to play Minecraft (the server i used to play on kinda went weird). A bit of a problem is that i'm in Sweden, but i guess my weird sleep kinda takes care of that. however: does hamatci work on windows 8?

I'm down though I'm not sure what hamachi is.
Also, building mats are gonna be a bit of a pain to obtain, gonna have to raid a few villages to get a good supply.

I'm down though I'm not sure what hamachi is.
It's a program that enables one to create a virtual LAN network over the internet - it's a quick and easy way for me to host a game without renting a server. Google it and you should find it.
svenne, it should work on Windows 8 but I can't guarantee it will work.
Also, building mats are gonna be a bit of a pain to obtain, gonna have to raid a few villages to get a good supply.
Depends on the preset we decide to use - the main thing we need to decide is how common we want wood/trees to be.
That will depend on whether we want to concentrate more on the survival aspect, or on the economic aspect, I guess.
Leonid Brozhnev
27th January 2013, 22:16
Trees don't need to be terribly common, most trees drop a few saplings when you cut them down so we'd be able to build a decent nursery after chopping a few. But I could be saying that because I find easy starts boring.

Not too late. Wanna join us?
I think we have enough players, now we should discuss when to start. For myself, I'm free almost any time of the day between midnight and 4pm.
Remember you'll need to download Hamachi (https://secure.logmein.com/uk/products/hamachi/download.aspx) (click the "download now" button in the link).

I'm free quite a bit, no concrete time frame but currently the only time I couldn't play would be Monday mornings.

How about 9th of February?
If you agree I can inform the others about it.

I'm still down, especially since I just figured out there's a native Hamachi client for Linux so I don't have to fux with wine. Although I'll only be able to play like once a week because I'm in school, work a lot, and also going to start a Pathfinder game (like D&D) with #FF0000 on Thursday.

Might be useful if you could provide a link to that client, since I think at least one other interested party mentioned running Linux.

That's fine, I wasn't expecting a marathon session from anyone else, since I assume that they have some kind of life. :tongue_smilie:

No problemo. Some misc configuration info, specific to my own preferred distro but probably applicable elsewhere:

Any time before 4PM GMT is good for me, since after that my connection is throttled something fierce, and won't be un-throttled until after midnight.

Seems legit, after all my time zone is GMT.
I will probably have a good connection since I am closest to the UK, except of course for Negative Creep.

Test server is now up and running, come and join me if you can:
1) In Hamachi, click on "join existing network" with the Network ID: OphidianThree
2) Password is: Solidarity
3) In Minecraft, click on Multiplayer and then Direct Connect. Enter the following IP address: 25.162.200.156 (or possibly 25.162.200.156:25565)
You should then be connected. Report any problems in this thread.
