Just want to say 'hi' to everyone here, I am a long time socialist from Poland. I spent last year working in Turkmenistan as an English teacher and I am absolutely convinced socialism is the way to go.

Pity that I see Turkmenistan being bullied more and more by the capitalist west :(

Any way, I know I have a lot to learn about socialism and I figured a dynamic place like this is the best way to both learn and express some of my ideas.

Looking forward to getting involved

Welcome!

I was really surprised to see your mention of Turkmenistan. That country used to fascinate me when I was younger.

No, I don't think that Turkmenistan is socialism, but there are a few elements of the Turkmen economic and political system that I liked and seemed closer to my socialist values than anything I have experienced before. In many ways it was like a paradise in comparison to Europe.

And yeah, I am here to learn so I don't mind if I have misconceptions or if they need to be changed :)

And thanks everyone for the welcoming messages!

More about Turkmenistan, it's corrupt and if you want to really suceed in life you got to be pretty high up in the 'Democratic party of Turkmenistan' which is the successor to the communist party. That said, the Turkmen government really does provide a lot to it's people.

Petrol/Gas is free - well, 120litres a month for every adult then 0.2$ for every litre.
Electricity is free, water is free, salt is free (this is a big thing in Turkmenistan). The government really keeps a tight grip of basic foodstuffs to make sure it's affordable. Government runs pretty much everything however as every year passes more and more western companies are getting involved in Turkmenistan so we'll see what happens there.

Cheap housing for government members, and government houses are really nice, everything is furnished, completely new equipment.

Crime is low because Police officers are EVERYWHERE.

Generally, I considered it a nice place to live.
