I would go insane up there. But in all honesty, who wants a one way ticket to a uninhabited planet? It just doesn't strike me as appealing. Maybe Noxion would be down.

I'll betcha they'll get a lot of volunteers.

They probably will. I'm remember reading at some point that they're hoping to turn the training process into a reality t.v. show. There is just no way that I could ever do that.

Do you play well with others:)? I don't think your ride will be a starship.

"There are no plans to return the pioneers to Earth." Anyone else catch that? Lol

Of course I could get along with most people if I feel like it. Who cares, that would be the journey of a lifetime. If I died on the mission I would die happy and content.

I would do it only on the condition that the other three are revolutionary socialists and we get to bring revolutionary literature so as not to get bored.

Would they pay you during the eight years of your training?
To be honest I wouldn't really mind this, hah.

Just for clarity's sake - once you leave, you won't be coming back, right?
How long would it take to get there?

I think I remember reading a while back that while they haven't technically ruled out the possibility of a return flight at some point a while in the future, all they can promise is a one way ticket.

I actually would totally be up for it. Explore a whole new world? Be one of the first people to ever see another planet? Sure it would be isolating but the possibilities & the historicity of it. It would have its downsides but I would totally volunteer. So long as it would be sustainable & reliable.

So its a TV show that follows the mars colonists during training and their first few years on mars ?
Somehow i dont expect them to ever get to mars and them thinking they will is the entire premise of the show.
Anyhow keep the red planet red if you can.

I didn't realize they were planning on trying to continue the show on their way to Mars, how will that even be possible?

Oh god, I would love to do this, sounds like my dream since childhood! Sure, it may be extremely dangerous but hey, everything comes with a price; I would rather have died from some space exploration disaster than say I died alone in some house.

The same way they communicate with the mars rovers.
But there wont be any live broadcasts i expect due to the great delay between sending and recieving the signal.

A scientist I know who used to work for NASA said that situations like this are basically the same thing as the movie Alien. They want people to scout it out so corporations and the military can set up shop.

Fodder, sounds entirely plausible.
Though what else is to be expected? That Mars and other planets are for the people?
There is no alien life on Mars so we will just be used and screwed in the same way we are in Earth.

[QUOTE=The Cheshire Cat;2565958]It would be awesome to go there, and no, you can not return. I remember hearing you are not going to get old on Mars too (maybe because of radiation?)

I've always wanted to go to space, but eight years of training isn't for me. The only part I would be interested in would be seeing space, and there's other things I'd like to do more.

Without some major technological breakthrough, I don't even think this can be feasible.
