Murderous drones in the skies are not enough, they have to put them under water too? Great.

The undersea containers are not intended for weapons systems, DARPA said.

Yeah right.

I'm stealing this idea.

Yeah right.

And in that same article they say it can be used to store drones.

Kind of surprising they haven't (as far as we know) been storing ICBM's this way.

Im just waiting for them to invent screamers like in the 1995 movie.

I actually thought this was old technology and had been in use for some time. I know submarines are used for identical purposes and they're mobile so this almost seems like a step backwards and an uncertain one at that.

Subs need to be maintained, serviced, staffed, etc... I'm pretty sure these are just big boxes sitting in the ocean and full of stuff.

Exactly and these boxes can be made to surface whenever required hidden away where nobody can find them.

The USA doesn't like Iran ? put some of these boxes in waters close by and when the time comes they can make them surface when required without having to organize for weeks/months before they could attack.

They're maintained, serviced and staffed anyways in near constant patrol. Perhaps this tech could replace some of the tasks subs would normally do but it seems odd that these big boxes would be trusted unsupervised with sensitive stuff and I can't think of any other purpose they'd have other than to hold sensitive stuff.

Submarines are not used to transport bulky cargo and having to move materials like drones cruise missiles and other kinds of stuff could take weeks so having them hidden away somewhere near potential flashpoints would allow a far more rapid response without having to deal with the delay normal logistics would bring.
