Anyone else love Radiohead's music but gave up on them because of whatever the hell it is that Thom Yorke's singing?

Radiohead is my favorite band (god I know, probably the most generic personal trait that one could appropriate), and I love Thom Yorke, he's the man. He's a legendary vocalist and lyricist.

King of Limbs was absolute shit though. Only other bad one in their discography besides Pablo Honey.

Can you understand what Thom's saying:confused:?

Most of the time. But I don't think just because you can't understand what he's saying some of the time detracts from his artistry.

I like Radiohead

Agreed. I think they are among the best ever; but the only time I listen to music anymore is when I'm driving; and following the printed lyrics from the cd would be problematic:).

I know exactly what you're talking about, the instrumentals are great but I just can't stand to listen to him sing, he ruins every song.

False. ;)

King of Limbs and In Rainbows are two of my favorite Radiohead albums. I love that they moved on as a band from their previous sound and into a more drum/rhythm centered and overall fuller sound (not to mention Selway is freakishly good). As a result, both these albums play like one cohesive set and the sound of the band comes forward with real power and skill.

As for Pablo Honey, it had a couple decent tracks but that was back when York whined continuously which was unfortunate but rather standard for the mid-90s. Definitely not my favorite but I was turned off by that sound back then.

What? Thom Yorke's a pretty good singer in my opinion.

I only like radiohead when I actually listen to them. Every time I think about the band in the abstract I think I hate them, but it's really just transference- I actually just hate a few pretentious assholes I knew who were really into them in the 90s.

One of these same guys put me off x-files for the same reason. The same with pink Floyd except I actually can't stand their music either.

I liked King of Limbs, but I had to listen through it a few times before it grew on me. I keep thinking I should listen more to Radiohead. I too find Pablo Honey kind of bland.

And stopping listening to Radiohead because of Thom Yorke? Blasphemy!

What a silly thing to say, everyone loves Pink Floyd. It's a fact.

edit: As far as Radiohead goes, a while back I downloaded a "Best Of" or "Greatest Hits of" or whatever torrent. I didn't really like a single song, what's wrong with me? :(

I downloaded an entire discography some years ago. I only really liked that very first Creep song or whatever (which is now a very guilty pleasure). I cannot stand the rest of it apart from some song on the first album or whatever it was, then things quickly went down hill. I don't know why people like them...

This bloke's cover of that Creep song is a billion times better than Radiohead's original.

It was actually the opposite for me, I had a few friends who were really into Pink Floyd and put me on to it. I thought some of their songs were ok and still do, but then one day we were listening to one of their albums (Animals, I think) in the car and I was just like "what the hell am I listening to?". They're really not that good. The only thing going for them are t-shirts, nostalgia and hype.

Personally I think they've only gotten better with every single album. Or rather..they're always evolving. Few bands can pull that off.

Kid A is one of my favourite albums ever, it is absolutely astounding on a number of levels.

When I saw Radiohead for the first time I nearly died.

This problem can be solved by simply adjusting yer meds, Jimmie:cool:. Whiskey and Merle Haggard won't lead you gently to Floyd.

OK Computer is, without a doubt, the best album i own... have a lot (mostly downloaded).

I know every song on it by heart, although i don't always understand the lyrics.

Love Creep and especcially Street Spirit. I think i figured out the lyrics, but the feel of the song...oh my goodness! Goosebumps everytime!

In my opinion Radiohead are a great band and Thom's vocal style and lyircs are 96% brilliant.
I found King of Limbs hard to get into, recently had a re-listen of Amnesiac and like it a lot more than when I first heard it.

I agree that Radiohead has continued to evolve with every album, and that's a rare thing to find in a band. Contrast that with Coldplay, who just took Radiohead's album The Bends and re-released it five different times with different names. And I love Radiohead's album OK Computer. I used to feel the track "Fitter Happier" perfectly encapsulated my life, but lately I've been feeling strangely more optimistic about things, like actually optimistic.

..and they have a song that goes by that very name.

"This one's optimistic, this one went to market, this one just came out of the swamp"

Wish I could post youtube clip..would have been more effective.

Dark Side of the Moon is pretty good, it deserves the acclaim it's gotten over the decades.

Some of their other stuff is hit and miss though.

The Bends, OK COmputer and Kid A are three of the best albums of the 1990s. Each of them is a master piece in its own right. I'm not such a fan of their more recent work, but in the 1990s nobody could hold a candle to Radiohead. They were simply the best band in the world. People talk about bands like Nirvana being all that, but Radiohead were simply on the next level - the kind of band that teenagers would graduate onto after they had outgrown Nirvana.
