Hello. I suppose I'll introduce myself. I'm a young guy living in the Pacific Northwest of the US, going to school full-time. For 5 years I worked at a union grocery store, where I learned a bit about how corporations and unions work, and figured-out "this shit is all fucked up." In my adolescence I guess I identified as an Anarchist, and sort of fell into the "Communism ended in the 90's right?" party. Some time in the last year I got really into Zizek which was a door-opener for sure, I'm definitely some sort of marxist. I still don't really know where I fit tendency-wise, but I'm fleshing out my politics a little more each day.

Now I'm in school, and most of my teachers have strong anti-communist bias, so I spend most of my time trying to bring Marx to any and all subjects.. I've been reading Zizek, also some Badiou, and Hardt/Negri. I know these guys come across as bullshitters to some of you, but I guess it reflects my beginnings as a philosophy student.

Right now I'm taking a Latin American history class, so I have been working on a research paper about Sendero Luminosa (Shining Path) the Maoist group in Peru.

That'll do for now, I'm looking forward to some hearty discussions. Thanks.

Well, yes, it does reflect just that. Of course, there's nothing wrong or shameful with that. Especially if your willing to critically engage these approaches.

Welcome :)

Welcome.
Although I certainely don't agree with most of what Zizek says, and it seems not even he himself does, I must say that I think his view on terror is a correct one. Can't say I know much about Badiou or Negri. I have a book, Revolutionary Subjectivity, which contains, I believe, texts from both of them but haven't got around reading them. Badiou's Communist Hypothesis and Philosophy for Militants are on my to-buy list though.

Well, now for the usual story: Welcome, ask questions, we are here to help. Etc, etc.
