I've fucked myself over on Facebook.com (yet again) by posting this article and accusing the author of suggesting that rape leads to abortion. What are your thoughts?

Firstly, you can edit your OP by clicking the "edit" button on the original post. It's in the bottom right hand corner.

Secondly, the article adopts the position of the quoted author in that they claim that sex-selective abortion has a correlation with increased rape and kidnapping. They also claim that, on the whole, sex-selective abortion is a bad thing. But this all has more to do with the sex-repression in these communities and the fact that women are considered property of their husbands, and that they cannot have sex before marriage, or that marriage is somehow vitally necessary.

Thirdly, I'm not sure facebook is the best place to discuss politics, ever...

Partially. Most reported rapists till now have family or sex-partners. So, rape is mainly due to treating women as beings inferior to men, or mere sex-objects. This is also the cause of sex-selective abortions.

My main question is whether or not the author is suggesting that abortion causes rape. He seems to be doing so because of the way he phrased it. He could have just said "Sex selection causes rape." Instead, he phrases it "Sex selective abortion causes rape." This allows people to reach the conclusion that restricting abortion will help stop rape.

My main question is whether or not the author is suggesting that abortion causes rape.

He is clearly not. What he is suggesting, or rather explicitly saying, is that the unbalance between the sheer number of men and women causes rapes, because many men are not able to find legitimate sexual partners, so they have to rape someone if they want to have sex.

I am not certain if such a weird view is any better than the allegation that "abortion causes rape"; it looks like right-wing crackpottery of the worst kind if you ask me.
