I've checked out the competition and wish to hear your opinions on them. ********'s a ghost town. Revleft2 seems to have been killed due to the complaints of one guy and the exile paradise that is libcom is surprisingly just the antithesis of revleft (instead of theoretical flame wars and socializing they seem to be focused on news and the minutia ofsmall leftists groups scattered across the globe)

Way to undercut the competition. R. E. V. F. O. R. U. M. seems to be censored (which makes sense seeing as how they are the closest to the format of this site.)

Not a fan of censoring, but that forum is about as shitty as an internet leftist forum can ever be.

To be honest they're all kind of shit.
Even though on revleft you do stumble upon a good, informative post here and there.
That's why it's good for learning, unlike the rest.

Rev-forum is boring. Their oh-so-much-better alternative form of organising a forum underpins the point I made when the CC was closed back in late 2009 (a little later Rev-forum was founded) that democracy isn't useful on a forum. A forum should be there to discuss, not to play e-soviet. They chose form over content and no one cares.

I have definitely noticed a decline of traffic on Revleft. I only get time to post on here when work is slack so it maybe only once every 10-12 weeks you might see me around but this forum has 100% changed for the worse in my opinion. Its still a great resource for learning about the struggle but it lacks allot of the characters that used to post here.

... ********'s a ghost town...

I have no idea what that refers to, so it's hard to pass comment.

EDIT - right, from context, and what happened when I typed R E D M A R X it seems there's a filter, and you meant R E V F O R U M - which I've never heard of until now and never been to.

... the exile paradise that is libcom is surprisingly just the antithesis of revleft (instead of theoretical flame wars and socializing they seem to be focused on news and the minutia ofsmall leftists groups scattered across the globe)

1 - 'exile forum'? Are you serious? I can't think of anyone on there who's an 'exile' from RevLeft except Book o' Dead, who was a De Leonist who came here, was annoying for a few weeks, then got banned, then went to LibCom, where he was annoying for a few weeks. Didn't get banned (LibCom doesn't do that so much) he just stopped posting I think.

2 - 'the antithesis of RevLeft - in that RevLeft is a forum for everyone that considers themself a 'revolutionary' and/or 'leftist', whereas 'LibCom' is a forum specifically for 'Libertarian Communism' (and those of us Left Comms who can blag that we don't want to take over the state)? Yeah, in that sense it's an 'antithesis', because they're not the same thing.

I go on LibCom quite a lot. In fact, I've been on LibCom for years longer than RevLeft, I only descovered RevLeft about 4 years ago.

I also go to *******, which is a pretty much a specific Left-Comm forum which is substantially made up of exiles from here. It's not very big, though there are sometimes some interesting discussions on it.

EDIT - oh that's interesting. Is there an automatic censor on this site? I didn't type "*******" I typed R E D M A R X - I wonder if that will disappear as well?

Have I missed the split? What happened?

Don't know what you're referring to I'm afraid - a split in what?

I suppose Libcom would be revleft's biggest 'competition'. Though honestly its really a different beast than revleft from the little I've seen of it. They have some good shit there and I enjoy reading it every so often. Similarly, the Red Marx fourm has a lot of interesting discussions (and overall better politics). Red Marx is made up mostly of banned revlefters now since the Great Purge. It doesn't get as much traffic as revleft or anything, but enough and has a lot of the better posters that were banned and are sorely missed (by me anyways).

Edit: lol at Red Marx being censored, BA you never cease to amuse me.

R E D M A R X is even more paranoid than libcom as far as Marxism Leninism is concerned. The way their admins try to bully MLs is just ridiculous.

It's not a forum for MLs, why should they put up with them?

The only ML I can think of who posts there is Negative Creep, and he isn't exactly telling us the whole time how awesome the Five Year Plans were.

And I'm not sure either is 'paranoid' about MLs, both LibCom and R E D M A R X are run by people who think that MLs are counter-revolutionary. It's not 'paranoia' to be worried about the destructive effects of counter-revolutionaries.

Whether or not you think that MLs are counter-revolutionary is not the point here. When someone joins your forum but does not post anything ML explicitly, you don't go about bullying him or posing as some great revolutionary. But that is exactly what the asshole admins in R E D M A R X did with one of my comrades. When our magazine started a little forum, we had separate representatives in each major internet forum for leftists. As of now, I operate all those accounts, so I can compare how they were treated in each forum. Libcom, despite being way bigger than R E D M A R X, is much more tolerant. R E D M A R X is just a shitforum that tries to troll revleft.

it's a shame because r e d m a r x had a lot of revleft's best posters and they still make some good posts. unfortunately the culture there is as cliquish as it is here sometimes.

To be fair, I have been accused for "single-handedly making the forum a much worse place". Which is probably true.

Nothing can be as bad as Soviet Empire. I regret ever making an account there.

I don't know - that 'socialist phailanx' website contained within its threads some of the most disturbing shit I've ever seen.
