My first grasp of leftism was made as i challenged traditional values such as religion, morality, state and finally being mature enough to understand the social inequality that i faced under capitalism, at the tender age of 14, (now im 25) when i also discovered Marx and Engels which initially fueled my atheistic stance. I am new to this site, as far as it goes to the origins of "leftist" in the Legislative Assembly during the 1789 French Revolution, I am indeed as one of those leftists who opposed monarchy, aristocracy and the upper class while siding the working class, the peasants, the lower class. My interest in "Leftism" goes further back when philosophers like Zeno of Citium were embracing thoughts that remind of anarchism (as he opposed Plato's perfect republic) opting for a free community without government rejecting the omnipotence of the state and the rejection of established, coercive moral law in a mixture of individual choice with social and civic interest; Also the case of Epicurus who was one of the first proponents of equality by accepting slaves and women into the school he founded. My interests are more focused upon acts which i can do by myself against social inequality and capitalist establishment, individual acts of direct action that may not have a great social impact, but would have a great social impact if far more individuals would do so. For instance I reduce my needs, my interaction with the capitalist state of affairs to a minimum and I consume only as much as I need for basic existence. Currently I am unemployed and probably i live somewhere around 30$ per month, while i dont drink, dont smoke, dont buy new clothes, dont eat more than i need and save money on each occasion i can find a cheaper alternative(for instance riding a bike instead of taking a taxi) and find alternative means of income while not emplyed(a kind of jack of all trades).
What would you people think about such an attitude.
