That depends on what one classifies as a "leftist movement". If leftists cannot even agree amongst themselves on this, then it's jumping the gun a bit to ask those kind of questions, surely?

Take the Occupy movement, for example. I've seen some leftists take it seriously, while others dismiss it as a bunch of liberals and whatnot.

Back on topic it's pretty clear that coverage of leftist movements is quite slim in the US. Same with right-wind movements sans domestic ones. I've never heard the naxalites mentioned in mainstream news, and only a passing mention of golden dawn when their offices got bombed.

Then again, there's a lot of stuff you don't hear on the news. And I'm not talking about crackerjack stuff from fringe websites.
