Dear comrades,

The KKE expresses its deep sorrow regarding the death of the great communist architect of the 20th century Oscar Niemeyer. His works in a series of countries left their mark on 20th century architecture; they express the meeting of innovative ideas in science and aesthetics with the vanguard ideas of social emancipation, the vehicle of which is the working class. They constitute a valuable legacy for the people and the working class of Brazil, as well as for all those who continue the struggle against oppression and misery all over the world.

Oscar Niemeyer joined the Communist Party of Brazil in 1945. His life and work was marked by his commitment to the cause of the abolition of exploitation and the construction of socialism. In the period of the counterrevolution and the crisis of the communist movement, he took a position against the forces of opportunism and surrender. In 1992 when the liquidationist majority of the CC of the Brazilian Communist Party abandoned it and sought its dissolution, he fought for its continuation and was made its honourary president. He remained until the end of his life a defender of the ideals of socialism-communism.

We express our sincere condolences to his family, the communists of Brazil, all the workers of Brazil who are today mourning a great scientist, comrade and fighter.

Beautiful shapes, but not some of the most practical buildings ever, I can tell you.

However, he seemed like an awesome dude, must have been someone nice to have a beer with.
