Hey guys..I haven't been on Revelft in years:( Anyways I'm 22 now and next semester I'm graduating and getting my associates in political science.. I'll be going for my bachelors after that..but I was wondering what I can really do with it besides teach?
I'm asking because studying and observing politics is probably the only thing that I'm exceptionally good at (when compared to the average person)...but I just don't know what to do with life and where I'll end up (especially as a Marxist)
?
I was hoping to get some responses from fellow Leftists and how they handled (handling) college and graduating..and what you did afterwards..

I'd advise against expecting to use your political science degree in an actual job. There are some skills like writing and some quantitative analysis that you will probably acquire along the way, but that's really about all you can hope for in terms of anything marketable. About politics specifically, you can learn a lot outside of formal schooling or in electives that don't need a degree title.
Even to teach you would need an advanced degree or a separate education degree unless you want to teach an elite private secondary school that doesn't ask for credentials beyond a bachelor's degree.
o well this is ok I guess

I heard it's not so bad a degree to get if you want to take the LSAT.
Law is ok, right?

You can go ahead and get a supplementary educational degree and become an educator.

With a political science degree you can probs get a job at a non-profit or something. Or, of course, working within one of the two parties.
I'm p. sure you could also sort of treat a poli-sci degree like a communications degree, maybe and get a job in PR or marketing? The major involves a lot of writing, right?

I graduated as a pol sci and sociology double major two years ago. Still no job, although I do not have a work permit yet anyway, so who knows what I'll do once I do.
Still, my plans have been to go to graduate school and eventually become a pol sci professor, with a focus in political theory. Yeah yeah, insert joke about ivory tower Marxist professors here. Fuck all y'all, I enjoy all the academic shit.

Off the top of my head: Journalism, teaching, writing, government departments, policy analysis, diplomat, international relations.

My cousin got the same degree out of the best college in Missouri. He's living in NYC working at a cafe...

Consider getting into the field of Occupational Therapy. Your liberal arts background will prove useful in dealing with people. More importantly, it is classified in the Allied Health Professions and since Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance provide reimbursement for OT services there are actually available employment opportunities.

So what did most of you guys do while in college?
I took a ton of electives in disperately related fields mostly from the natural sciences and the humanities and kind of blew off my main course of study, although looking back at it I probably ended up learning more even from my required degree coursework than I thought I did at the time.
However, as to politics, it wasn't my main field of study, but I learned far more on revleft and my own reading than I ever did in a classroom. What politics classes I did take I learned primarily how to BS my way to get an acceptable grade.
o well this is ok I guess

I was thinking about this the other day and realised that graduating actually makes no difference to my life aspirations (or lack thereof). This should be sweet but it doesn't stop me stressing about it still - I think I'd just be disappointed with myself if I didn't at least write a thesis I'm happy with regardless of grades.
