Even though the PSL never wrote back to me yet, I plan on using their name.

Any suggestions on this, what should I rephrase, edit out? I purposefully used the "FDR era high taxes" and "New Deal" to give us a more established platform and not seem so fringe. Comments, criticism please!

Socialism & Liberation!

For a full-employment, Just and democratic Socialist American economy!
An economy where profits and social wealth are controlled by the persons who make them, the majority of working people; where managers are democratic representatives of the working class, not of the minority owning class.
Currently in our society: One family, the heirs of the founder of the Wal-Mart Corporation, the Walton family, owns more than 30% of the total American population do. 1% of Americans own 75% of all US shares..
The Capitalist system is currently in a crisis precedented in scale only by the Great Depression, so far. Crisis? When over 12 million American citizens are officially categorized as unemployed, when every fourth American Child is labeled “Food Insecure” (experiencing regular hunger) by the Agricultural Census, when 52 Million Americans are on Food Stamps; when, while we have countless Americans suffering need and distress, there are over 20%(!) of our means of production sitting still because of a lack of profitability for Capital investment; this is a crisis which necessitates a resolute Socialist alternative: FDR-era progressive taxation, expansion of State investments/employment. Cutting of Military expenditures instead of Social programs, and a new kind of radical participatory democracy!
Liberation from Poverty, Unemployment, Hunger, Homelessness, wage slavery, debt servitude, and against the social inequalities of education, medical care, and opportunity; for a new ‘New Deal’ for the American People!, PSL (Santa Cruz)

The content seems good but I would personally use more bullet points and maybe just make it flashier in general so it will catch people's eyes better.

What do you mean, PSL never wrote you back? I'm a candidate-member, and my branch (Chicago) contacted me right away when I showed interest.

Also, their website (www2.pslweb.org) has many documents and articles (from our paper, "Liberation") that you could use for your flyer, rather than just using the party's name on something you wrote. Sorry, but it just seems a little shady to do that.

Don't use the name of an organization that you're not a part of, at least don't distribute it until they contact you and approve. Technically (though they likely wouldn't pursue it) it's illegal and it's very unprofessional, most organizations don't like to see their names attached to anything they didn't explicitly approve, for liability purposes.

I don't really know much (or, honestly, give two shits about) the PSL, but I'm guessing that if they are in to any sort of democracy or accountability, they'd be pissed if unaccountable non-members were running around using their name without any sort of mandate from their membership. 'Cos, you know, that's not autonomous, it's dishonest.

Yeah, I wrote them two days ago, was getting impatient and wrote up this rough draft but don't have any materiels to distribute it in the first place. Mainly trying to jot some ideas down and ask you what you think of the content and structure.

Improve sentence structure and spelling mistakes, add bullet points, and give a brief overview of what policies FDR implemented in the midst of the depression because I suspect most Americans have no idea what happened. If FDR were to run for president now he would be labeled a radical marxist-terrorist-socialist-jihadist. You could also bring up the "Second Bill of Rights" proposed by FDR that was never adopted and never discussed since.

Zealot
16th December 2012, 09:43
And also point out that the achievements made under FDR that have since been lost require a solution to make them stay in place this time: a workers state/"radical participatory democracy".

It took about a month for someone to get back to me when I applied, but that was a few years ago. I would say don't give out propaganda for an organization you don't belong to, and really, don't spread propaganda for the PSL regardless.

Distributing flyers for an organisation to which one doesn't belong isn't insane. It's sleazy and deceitful. Don't do that. Start your own party if you want, but don't ride on others' coat tails for something so ridiculous. PSL has actual flyers on their website…print some out and distribute those if you insist. And if their statements don't jive with what you want to say, take that as a sign that you don't even want to be part of the organisation.

Hmmm, I hate to jump on the band wagon, but two days isn't a very long time. We've talked about this before so I know what your doing, so for now just get started, make a provisional organization, and offer to merge your organization with the PSL when they get back to you.

Hey Workers Control over Prod, your enthusiasm is welcomed but i have to tell you that unless its produced by the party, it wont reflect party stance or sentiment on issues. This sounds legalistic i know, but it has less to do with law and more to do with the coherence of the party's line publicly.

Im not scolding or anything, it just would not be legitimate PSL propaganda.

Now personally, this is one of my favorite 'generic' pieces of outreach material to post up at places
http://www2.pslweb.org/site/DocServer/8myths.pdf?docID=4321

There is also an 11x17 poster version but the best way to do this one is to split the poster in two, with the first four myths on one side, and the second four myths on the other, or in two separate pages. this way you have a front-to-back double sided page with all 8 myths or you can have two separate pages each with half of the myths posted together to create a whole poster. (im assuming you dont have access to a fancy printer so the two separate sheets is a good way to go about using this one)

As for the SF branch (i'm assuming this is the branch you contacted) not responding immediately, there is a lot of work going on in San Francisco and also the people who take on this area of work are not always available for response. There are a lot of emails going about at the PSL office but that is no excuse, just some clarification i guess

Chances are, they've already seen it and are discussing or figuring out a response. They may have just as likely not seen it yet.

I've had to deal with these sorts of emails before and to be honest it could take me some time to properly word a response, including discussing it with comrades. (for a little insight)

If you would like, we could have a private discussion about it since i know the SF branch very well.

WWP isn't really a Trot organization, more like an "ex-Trot" party if that makes any sense. The formation of it was a move away from the Trotskyist perspective towards a Marxist-Leninist one.

The funniest thing is that all these parties put together have less members than some KKE branch office in one of Athens' neighbourhoods.

The WWP identifies as Marcyist which is, from my understanding, classified as Post-Trotskyist; they still uphold many of Trotsky's theories but with a more critical edge in addition to some theoretical developments which orthodox Trotskyists reject (focus on Third-Worldism, for instance).

Let me risk being Captain Obvious and get back to basics on the OP. The flyer seems fine to me, but put it out under the name WCOP not PSL. PSL as an organization has the right to determine the contents of anything distributed under its banner.

Very nice people. Good activist. Integrity. Never got into the inner Party stuff though. Took a road trip with them up the coast, not once would they speak of the inner Party stuff.

For those who think I hate the PSL, not true. They could have been great. Instead they chose cliques over ideology. You walk in to their office and are blown away by the activity and maps of the city that make it look like a war room. So much potential.

I don't think you just randomly hate the PSL, it's obviously based on your experiences with them in your area. But you tend to just kind of attack them in very ad hominem-like ways instead of focusing on substantive criticisms.
