We have the technology. But do we the right? Our civilization's scientific advancements make the idea of genetically augmenting fetus's to be more than plausible. But until the medical system is fully socialized, this potencial branch of medicine is generally avoided due to its inevitable creation of a genetic gap between the rich and poor. Here's my scenario. Let's say around 2035 (sooner amongst the oligarchs of Russia, China and shadowy american businessmen) designer baby's have become a reality. The children of the rich are smarter, faster and stronger than the children of the rest. 30 years later revolutionary regimes and the seeds of the DOTP begin to take power. How should the enhanced children of reactionaries be dealt with? Should they be forced into reeducation camps, allowed to enjoy their unnatural biological blessings and thrive as the living relics of the blessings and curses of capitalism or do you advocate the Anastasia Option(also known as killing the younglings), which entails eliminating the innocent and semi innocent in order to avoid a future threat ?

We don't need the Anastasia Option because that happened in the context of a hereditary royal lineage. I'm sure Lenin & co. were well-aware that if you leave the children to live the Whites/Monarchists will rally around them as the future heir, as was the case in the French Revolution I believe.

Why should we put them in re-education camps (or even have them) all because they're genetically engineered? They're still human, with all that entail. It's not like they're super-heroes or have X-men powers; the working class makes a majority and if they raise ruckus they can easily put them down.

But in the meantime, we won't do anything to them.

Eugenics is scientifically bankrupt and a very slippery slope in terms of racial and sexual politics.
That being said, if I were going to be a father and the child was severely handicapped or doomed to live a short and excruciating life, I'd want to get an abortion.

Anyhow, we've seen what preferring boys over girls has done to China. There are too many males.

If I could afford a "designer baby" I would probably have one, if I wanted children in the first place...

Mostly so my kids wouldn't be discriminated like in Gattaca (plus hoping they do better at math than me so they can be astronauts or robotic engineers, something cool like that :p).

Assuming that the kids are as bright as advertised, the revolution against them would be an uphill battle. :lol:

Technically speaking if one want to prosecute / exterminate them for their genetic origin... I'd only say that one is crossing the thin line between socialism and national socialism...

Assuming that ethical arguments wouldn't be obstacle for you - these kids would be presumably quite useful at professional jobs, so even out of pragmatism should be spared.
