This seems to be a favored tactic for the right-wing right now: "youMcCarthyism". They are having trouble countering things like the Wisconsin protests, Occupy, the Chicago teacher's strike, the WalMart protests, etc and so they are using intimidation instead and trying to capture video-footage which can be taken out of context or footage of verbal and physical attacks after harassing people.

If you see a group of smarmy Bribart-wanabees at a protest or meeting, I'd suggest just grabbing a couple of other folks, and then surrounding the right-wing video provacatuer while having an in-depth discussion about Jesus and the quantity of angels who can fit on the head of a pin.

Maybe you never really encountered them on the west coast, but back when the anti-war movement was in full swing there was a group called "protest warrior", they would head to anti-war demos, and find the militants/radicals and incite them to violence (usually having a small and/or pregnant woman holding a camera) then they would post them online and say "see, these liberals say they want peace, but really they're just violent". Nevermind the fact that they rarely ever engaged with liberals, and they were often told that by those they antagonized.

The best thing when dealing with the press, esp. this kind of press, is not getting drawn into their 'frame' of the whole thing, don't take talk to them or if you must, don't take them seriously at all and let them make fools out of themselves. People who'll dig your actions will dig them, others won't. Whatever.

Bribart people did the same thing at an ISO event. The strategy from the comrades was just to surround them and be a buffer to their raging assholery. But even standing there barely saying anything was filmed as "commie union thugs trying to push citizen reproters down the stairs!" and the video was just they guy yelling at people saying, "Are you trying to push me down the stairs, I think they want to push me down the stairs!" while everyone rolled their eyes and laughed at the clown. The film-makers caught someone else smoking a cigarette and telling other people that the filmers would have been dealt with more directly if they tried to do this at a union protest... lo and behold :D

This is why I think trying to talk to them about Jesus (or maybe Lyndon Larouche) would be the best way to deal with it - you can't win by either ignoring them or attacking them, because they will try and be disruptive either way: troll the real-life trolls unless we can just physically marignalize them like people have done at anti-war protests and Wisconsin.

Yes you are right - definately counter-protests by right-wing nuts is nothing new, and people have video-taped and recorded radical events and meetings to "expose" the left many times in the past. But I think there is a bit of difference since ACORN which is that there are these right-wing frat-boys out there who I think believe they can advance a careere and make a niche for themselves in the well-funded right-wing world of radio, blogs and think-tanks and maybe even FOX news.
