I recently joined alternatehistory.com and for some reason was labelled a sockpuppet of a russian who supposedly lives in the same city as me. Could somebody make a quick account there so i can use it to ***** a bit? (i can't access email through it so you'll be fine.

Somehow they've labelled all Tor proxies as spammers. Any other ideas?

Use a friend's or relative's computer. Or head to the library.

I really just wanted to test the power of the proxy. I guess Tor's hype was exagerated (if a chat site can block you, i'm pretty sure the government could destroy it in a minute.

Isn't that likely to be the reason for labelling Toad a sockpuppet in the first place? I've often wondered how many times here at RevLeft people have been banned because they made an account on a library or internet-cafe computer and it came up as a clone account.

Exit nodes are publicly available. They probably have a script on the server that pulls a list of known exit nodes and automatically adds them to a blocklist every X minutes/hours. You're still anonymous.

But couldn't the govt crash them all in a crisis situation? What's the point of this technology when it will become instantaneously obsolete when you actually need it?

because most people use tor for the internal web sites, not as a proxy. The internal web sites allow you to publish information anonymously and read it anonymously as well.

Now that i've finally got it, point me to a tor site that's worth 10 minutes of my time. (No child porn please. And if it's revolting, give me a description first so i can spiritually prepare myself)

I guess the topic of govt intervention in the internet is a moot point, as someone could simply destroy the internet's physical infrastructure in a crisis.
But I've read that there are a bunch of people working on creating a mesh network that doesn't rely on the present internet servers and would be close to impossible to shut down...can't remember the name of the project though.

How does that shit work anyway? Even if it is anonymous, the goods still need to be mailed in. Is the UPS on the take or are there secret silk road dispensaries operating besides the dumpster near the city library?

USPS needs a warrant to open packages, and there's no proof you actually requested the item if it's intercepted beforehand.
Disclaimer: I don't use silk road.
Here's an article some random dude wrote up about it: http://www.gwern.net/Silk%20Road

From what i understand it is mailed, so there's some risk for the receiver. No doubt the seller cares little about that though.
