Here we go:

I heard someone wanted to get a degree in marxist economics. Why would he spend over a grand on something that
a) wouldn't lead to real employment in the capitalist system
and
b) would be given out for free under socialism?

(but then again he might have been from europe and I have no idea how their education systems work)

Perhaps he wants to learn about Marxian economics now rather than wait for a revolution that may or may not occur.

Than why doesn't he just focus on online resources instead of spending money on a bullshit degree?

Perhaps he believes that he will learn more from a formal course of study.

I don't get that line of thinking. If he wants to hear a lecture he could go to youtube, if he wants to discuss he can come here and if he wants a reading list he can go to a variety of leftist online libraries.

RevLeft is hardly a substitute for interaction with academic specialists as much as we would like to think that we are.:D

Going to a capitalist education system for an accreditation in a non marketable field is what's really stupid. Donate the money to Chiapas if you wanna be productive with your cash.

You are assuming that the prospective student is interested in the accreditation rather than learning substantively about the subject matter of the course of study.

All they need to do is watch the leftist equivalents of ted talks and read a shit load books. If I wanted to master marxist economics (which would be implemented far more fluidly in an automated environment) i could probably have a moderate understanding by myself in at most half a year of on and off internet reading and note taking consolidation.

Some people find that they learn more from a formal course of study and benefit from interaction with professors/instructors.

I know a number of Marxist academics that make ridiculous amounts of money. And it doesn`t make any sense to wait to be educated until all is provided by socialism...

Paying someone over a grand in order for them to explain a non money based society is the ultimate insult

If you think that it is so simple that you could even learn a moderate amount of it in a year while working full time at another job through reading and web surfing you are mistaken.

Who said i work full time? Seriously, is it really that more complicated than basic capitalistic economic theory?

Neoclassical Theory isn't easy either. We aren't talking about sophomoric understandings here.
