Welcome to the forum. This is a great place for learning.
A petite-bourgeois is someone who owns means of production, but utilizes their own labour, with or without hiring other workers as well. Basically someone who owns a small company, but still has to work as well. An example would be If I owned a bakery and I do the baking, not just hire people to do it for me. Then I would be petite-bourgeois.

So, would Marx call "tea partiers" petit bougeouis? Because if thats the case, then, in my view, it would seem that Marx was absolutely correct in his assessment.
Let's face it. Most of the Baby Boomers who were successful received a college degree - probably paid for by parents who were union members. And they want to destroy the one path that "regular" proletarians can use to make a decent living.
I know that the traditional labor unions are wary of the Marxian influence due to the perception of being accused of being "communist". However, the true radical will only find satisfaction in the 'Revolutionary" aspect of the movement.
Thank you for your kind replies.

Having tertiary qualifications like a degree doesn't necessarily make somebody petit bourgeois, though. Class relations are a complex thing. Especially in countries where even most workers have such qualifications like Cuba.
But yeah, I think Marx would call the tea partiers petit bourgeois. I think that's reasonable statement.

Welcome! You seem like a cool person and a good addition to the forum.
I would classify the tea party as a petty bourgeois movement. As they're heavily influenced by libertarianism, which is a petty bourgeois ideology.
I'm not sure about the class composition of the Christian zealots and the not-so-subtle racists though.

Great definition. Didn't Marx say that the petite-bourgeois would also do better with communism, since the small get gobbled up by the big? Or something along those lines?
In the USA many small businesses are started with the life savings of workers and/or putting their house up as collateral. A very risky thing to do as 9 out of 10 small businesses fail at which point they lose all their money, their home and are once again proletariats.
In American we are moving more and more towards monopoly capitalism until someday (if we don't have a revolution first) it might be just one giant company.
How many hard working honest workers fell from the American Dream of business ownership only to be crushed financially and morally and left worse off than the day they first started working?
I think the petite-bourgeois, especially those struggling or with nothing, would join a workers movement if we can convince them that they should not envy the wealthy that are keeping them from realizing their dreams. That is was all a scam and communism is the way to go.:)

At our union meetings, the BA always says "Brothers and Sisters." I have worked as a union electrician for almost 13 years. When I was in the apprenticeship, I worked with several Lady Journeypersons. I actually enjoyed working with the ladies. Most of the time, they were the ones who really focused on Safety. While a lot of the guys were anxious to "cut a fat hog" and be like a "cowboy" when it came to safety.
The goal that the BA's would keep saying is "... we want to leave the job in the same condition that we arrived. Maybe a little dirty and tired, but with all of our parts." Military service implies that you are required at any time to give your life. But NO working person should be under that condition.

FiatLux, to answer that question I'd like to direct you to the thread I've sticked explaining that particular question:

Easier to just link to that than to re-explain it myself hehe. Let me know if you have any more questions or concerns and I'm happy to answer.
