"Archaeologists of the History Institute of the DPRK Academy of Social Sciences have recently reconfirmed a lair of the unicorn rode by King Tongmyong, founder of the Koguryo Kingdom,"
What?

Hard to tell if they're serious or just trolling the western media.

^with regards to trolling, I don't think that the DPRK's sense of humor or irony is nearly that advanced.

Haha, I forgot how wacky the DPRK's propaganda organ is. From their news website, this was literally one of the headlines from a couple days ago:
Epizootic Disease Breaks Out in S. Korea
Pyongyang, November 28 (KCNA) -- Epizootic disease hydrophobia broke out at a farmhouse in Hwasong, Kyonggi Province of south Korea on Nov. 24, south Korean KBS reported.
Holy shit, some chickens got sick in a south Korean farmhouse?!

This is actually a brilliant tourism hook for North Korea.
Seriously, they'll get hordes of little girls flocking in from all over the world to see the 'land of the unicorns'.
It's genius!

Old news.
Seriously now, it doesn't actually mention unicorns as such, I reckon this has something to do with mythology and folk legends and related placenames.
Whatever you might think of them, North Koreans ( the leadership of the country ) aren't crazy.

I'm not even going to click on that. Guess why.
Kim was a weird guy for sure, but definitely not some insane moron the Internet and media make him out to be.
Besides what is this doing in Politics?

Man, that shit about "Pulgasari" is so fucking weird. I've always thought that's the strangest story about Kim Jong-Il that's actually true.

I enjoyed that movie. So what is this doing in politics? Moving it to non-political.

I'm surprised that there are so many xenophobes and gullible "leftists" on Revleft. What the archaeologists found (http://www.kcna.co.jp/item/2012/201211/news29/20121129-20ee.html) was an area with the words "Unicorn Lair" carved into a rock:
"A rectangular rock carved with words "Unicorn Lair" stands in front of the lair. The carved words are believed to date back to the period of Koryo Kingdom (918-1392)."
"The discovery of the unicorn lair, associated with legend about King Tongmyong, proves that Pyongyang was a capital city of Ancient Korea as well as Koguryo Kingdom."
Nothing about the DPRK believing in unicorns or believing that it was in fact a real "unicorn lair". Bourgeois media has twisted it that way obviously. As soon as the DPRK is brought up everyone is ready to throw their class analysis out of the window and ready to uphold the bourgeois gospel.

I wasn't really sure where to put this. I guess for some odd reason, I thought politics=things going on in the world, so I don't know.

The reason the DPRK reported this is because the location of the "lair of unicorn" mentioned in Korean legends "proves that Pyongyang was a capital city of Ancient Korea as well as Koguryo Kingdom."
This is just another effort by the DPRK to show that it is the "true" heir to Korean national culture.

Well, if the story about him kidnapping short people and dropping them on abandon islands as a eugenics experiment is true, you may have to change your mind.

Seems very nationalistic (in a reactionary way) to me...

Can we atleast keep the Kim Dynasty allives after we've overthrown them and make them into a comedy/reality show for everyone to watch?

Seems very nationalistic (in a reactionary way) to me...It's not unexpected considering that there are segments of Southern society which criticize the "Americanization" of Korean culture and, of course, posing as a guardian of national culture has its benefits for the Northern regime as well.
