Strange poll.
I would group R & B with Blues (R&B means rythem and blues, it's the same thing as blues), and have Jazz by its self.
Have bluegrass and country together.
Latino could includeb world music
and you could add another category for punk.
I vote rock, I listen to classic rock like
Led Zepp
Pink Floyd
Deep Purple
Cream
Jimi Hendrix
David Bowie
Queen
Rolling Stones
Jethro Tull
Moody Blues
the Beatles
the Who
Rush
Yes
Todd Rundgren
these are just some of the bands whose CDs I have
I also like jazz, like
Coltrane
Davis
Thelonius Monk
Bela Fleck
some other guys, etc.

OK, those options on the poll are waaay too general to get a good answer from me...especially since you can only choose one answer.

I listen to all those genres and more, why would you shudder at country music? Perhaps you can't see past Billy Ray Sirus but there is great alt country out there like Calexico or Lambchop, Johhny Cash's last album was brilliant too..
In every genre there is good, bad and ugly, sometimes I'm in the mood for Tibetan chanting monks, another day it'll be Minnie Ripperton or some new Mexican band... Sunday is always Jazz day in my house.. Anyway, those of you stuck in a rut need to broaden your musical horizons, it gives you a wider frame of reference.. I find the most interesting/original music is often a mix of two or more genres, creating something new - hybrid music... Oh fuck it, I dunno...

I'd like to say anything good, but what I consider good falls under only a few genres.
I listen to classical a lot, not so much the older baroque pieces as the music of the classical and romantic era, and particualrly impressionist music by composers such as Debussy or Ravel. Atoanl music can be nice as well as long as its not tooooooo extreme.
Jazz also rocks, but not the really old stuff
Other than that I like Prog, often virtuoso music such as Vai, also a bit of old school metal, like your Iron Maiden and sabbath etc.

16th January 2004, 13:36
Yeah, I've listened to some of their music on Drum n Bass Arena (http://www.breakbeat.co.uk), and a few tracks of Kazaa...but the stuff's a little mellow, methinks. I'm currently into spaced-out tech-step stuff like Marcus Intalex and Total Science, although I do listen to alot of Bukem and Makoto tunes as well...
Danton
16th January 2004, 17:44
Right, I't's interesting how D&B fluctuates between dark and mellow but I find the best Djs incorporate every sphere in their sets.. I remember when it was called hardcore - then jungle, now D&b - It was the music that first got me seriously into DJ'ing...
Sadly I feel the real D&B movement we had, say five six years ago is lost... Clubs like Speed & Metalheadz just fizzled out and the only nights I know of in London now are Movement - which is still strong and Outpatients...
Thanx for the link...
