I know the Palestino problem in Cuba is caused by the embargo, but how does it affect day to day life on the island and it could it be the issue that eventually topples Castro's Cuba?

(Sigh) Palestino is a euphanism in Cuba directed at the poor black natives of the east of the country (which has always been the poorest region). Due to the embargo and lack of development it is technically illegal for people to move freely to Havana (and i guess other parts of the island as well). Palestinos go to Havana anyway in search of work becoming the islands underclass in the process. First heard about them when an exile tried to explain why Cuba was still a racist place and then learned more about the issue from a Al Jazeera documentary.

Thanks for the clarification, because I had no idea what you were talking about.
Do you have any informative links about this issue, because I don't know anything about this. It would help a lot.

Alright, I'll give it a shot. Although the "palestino" influx creates economic dislocations in Cuba, it seems unlikely to cause the fall of the regime. First, the austerity measures undertaken by Presidente Generalissimo Raul Castro, while reprehensible betrayals of the Cuban proletariat probably will create additional macro-economic flexibility that will allow the palestinos to be absorbed into the new private economic sector. Second, the regime is unlikely to be destabilized as long as Raul Castro is alive since he has a great deal of personal authority and support within the Revolutionary Armed Forces and will not hesitate to perpetuate the regime's existence as gunpoint if necessary. Third, the palestinos are unlikely to coalesce within the largely white "gusano" exile community as their social and economic interest are diametrically opposed to each other.

Ok so it's a racist term, just like Philistine.
Despite official Cuban policy racism has continued. I don't think one can simply blame it on the embargo...

Official Cuban policy is to blame everything on the embargo.;)

Ok so it's a racist term, just like Philistine.
there may be a racist element to it...
But I feel the term may be more of a regional rivalry/conflict kind of thing.
Kind of like how some Northern Italian (lega nord, legalisti) speak negatively of Southern Italians.
In the past, there was a regional rivalry in PR as well between San Juan in the north and Ponce. Most of the rivalry is over, the people in San Juan don't care about it at all anymore, although from time to time people from Ponce like to think of themselves as special and repeat a famous phrase "Ponce es Ponce, lo resto es parking."
What I liked about the video was the Cuban palestino musicians sense of humor.

The youtube(al-Jazeera) video about the palestinos from rural, eastern Cuba was most interesting, but I am curious as to why you think that it poses a threat to the stability of President Generalissimo Raul Castro's regime?

The cuban revolution's heartland is the east of the island. The U.S has and could continue to throw propaganda and resources at that area and its diaspora which would eventually lay the foundations for a group that could be the first to explode against the Castro's over some reason (slow hurricane disaster relief, needing more investment et cetera)

I don't really see that sort of political potential, after all migration is a rather common phenomenon worldwide. Vamos a ver.

I believe you have purposefully mislead people here. Not even that news piece which is being deceptive itself made this claim although they seem keen to mislead.
I am not claiming to be certain but I don't think that Chinese style city work permits are needed in Cuba. I'm not even sure how the system works in China either. So anyone who can provide authoritative and definitive answers please step up to the plate.

Ah, you are a pro US imperialist and pro capitalist tool calling for governments to be overthrown. You dont do this in your country though do you? The communal toad calls for violence everywhere but in his house, or so I would bet.

Damn you're stupid. Asking about a social subgroup in a country doesn't make me imperialist. Why don't you do us all a favor and devote yourself fully to a free and ultra communist Texas. Idiot

You were not asking. Well I think you were using Aesopian language in that comment. I could be wrong but ...... I don't know. Why would you speak like that do you support the counter-revolution in Cuba and the overthrow by a USA backed capitalist group?

You.Are.Fucking.Stupid
Questions and analysis do not equal being a reactionary. Think about it, why would I support the most broke fucking people in Cuba turning to capitalism? That being said, i fucking hate those who stick their heads in the sand when they hear any criticisms or simple facts about life in places that call themselves socialist.

OK toad, I'll take that as an answer even though you were making a statement not a question in the post I was referring to. Also I did attempt to fully take on the issue so you can't point at me with your claim above. I'll wait for you to provide me with a definitive answer on the work permits since you made the claim.

Castro's pretty much saying what i did about the problems in Israel's collective psyche. Unless the levant and the middle east in general reaches its logical climax and self immolates, the state of Israel will pretty much survive until the end of the nation state or until it is forced to die. And unfortunately all of these scenarios will end with dead jews.

As bad and as poor as Cuba is. I think the people of Cuba have higher standard of living than the people of Haiti, Guatemala. And even in the USA if you are not an elderly, and you have a tooth ache with a deep pain because of a root canal you gotta suck it up. So in a lot of ways lots of cubans are even wealthier americans. The USA is a big scam, a big trap, in which many people who even earn 40,000 dollars a year. Cannot enjoy those 40,000 dollars in Disney World, in parties, in restaurants, in traveling to Europe. Because like George Carlin said American are owned, we are owned.
kJ4SSvVbhLw
Those 40,000 dollars are quickly trickled up to electricity corporations, AT&T, Car insurance corporations, health insurance corporations, Century 21, Remax, Bank of America, American Express, the IRS. Heck man the USA is really the big trap and the big scam of this world
Cubans are poorer than americans, but I bet than in Cuba people don't have to take 10 sleeping aid pills before they go to bed, so that they can sleep. Because living in the USA with so many bills, taxes and fees to pay feels like sitting in a death row electrical death penalty chair. This country is not a walk in the park. It is a hell on earth
