I heard that in Liverpool under Thatcher half of the Liverpool'l government imprisoned just to suppress the protests. Is that true?

Coming from an anti-class-strugglist who thinks a vote in a bourgeois election is worth more than a strike, that's probably a compliment.

Well, if you're elected to power on a platform of defending the wages-system or campaign for the "right to work" (under capitalism), Liverpool is a good example of just how futile and diversionary for the class struggle this is. Incidentally, the union leader who opposed the redundancies in Liverpool in the 1980s, is now Chief Exec over the water implementing redundancies under a Labour council. I went to the protests against this last week and saw a lot of disillusionment in the Labour group, who knew well the consequences of setting an illegal budget. Maybe someone should have pointed out the futility in the 1980s and the class struggle might be a bit further on.
