One of the ways by which the owning class manage to convince the working class that they don't live in a class-divided society is through the powerful myths of religion.
Okay, you live in poverty and they live in ease and luxury but that is only a temporary arrangement according to the religious myths and you will soon be luxuriating in paradise.
Another powerful means of blinding the working class to their class position is by the poison of nationalism.
One of the constant themes pursued by the owning class is that workers should be proud of "their" country and if necessary from time to time take part in wars to protect it. During two world wars millions of workers died, often because they imagined they had a country.
