Now, the "official" inflation rate for Austria is 2.7%. But modern inflation techniques do not count a lot of commodities, "Nahrungsmittel" food (the recognized most inflation prone item) being one of them.

To the poor of Austria, these inflation figures for basic necessities, are devastating (also taking into account that workers real wages have been stagnating in the advanced capitalist countries since decades, and in fact have fallen in most in the last four years).

The new Boss of the German Bank said that "through the euro rescue we will have to adjust to a higher inflation", and the end of the article (http://www.oe24.at/oesterreich/Preis-Explosion-bis-zu-182/78812952) reminds us that "an end to the rising prices is by far not in sight".

Inflation is the continuous rise in prices of most commodities. It is either a result of too much money chasing too few goods or... an increase in cost for a crucial primary input, like fossil fuels.
