Can comrades here explain in short what exactly was the August Coup about, what were its prospects and what forces supported it. Why did it in the end fail? How did Soviet people feel about it?
Was there a way to preserve the USSR or at least stop the "wild capitalists" headed by Yeltsin from coming to power?
