German language question

What would be a native German translation of "Soviet Union," as in what Germany would have called itself if it had been the first to have a successful socialist revolution.

I'm thinking "Räterbund." Would that be correct?

Overlooking the spelling mistake (the plural of 'Rat' is 'Räte,' rather than 'Räter,' and as such it would be 'Rätebund' rather than 'Räterbund'), it seems like a fair enough name, strengthened by the fact that it had actually been used as the German translation for 'Soviet Union' by at least some people through the 20's and into the 30's, at least. Alternatively, 'Räterepublik' was used to refer to the setup in Bavaria, and could have also been used to refer to the entire country (for example: 'die Deutsche Räterepublik') if it hadn't actually taken the form of a union of soviet socialist republics, instead becoming simply a republic unto itself (in which case calling it a union would kind of seem a bit ridiculous).

Whether they would have actually chosen that name for themselves is a whole other question, of course...
