I don't get the whole idea behind self immolation. According to the Buddhist theology aren't they just going to continue being oppressed in their next life? I've heard from some literature that on occasion monks were allowed to go to war. I know the current Dalai Lama is pacifist and that the chinese would crush the tibetans through immigration alone, but why don't the monks pick more "active" means of suicide?

disclaimer: I in no way sanction suicide bombings or death by cop be it by the hands of jihadis or characters from battle star galactica. I also do not sanction the dumbass means of protest which involve dumping gasoline on your head and self immolating.
