I met Stalin, Trotsky, Lenin, and Kropotkin in five, five, four, three handshakes, respectively. I met a guy who met Anton Constandse, a Dutch anarchist journalist. Anton Constandse met Kropotkin. Kropotkin met Lenin. Lenin met Stalin.

Handshakes transcend time.

if lectures count, last year malcolm chase, the most respected historian of chartism, took a few of my lectures and seemed a nice chap, but very boring.

Of the top of my head, I've met most of the CWI Swedish and international leadership. Having an administrative conversation with Clare Doyle (one of the original members of the Militant Editorial Board) was the 'high point' I suppose. I also once spoke with Peter Taaffe, but that was about something totally nonpolitical.

We were out of coffee cups and I informed him that I just brought some. I also once attended an event where Aleida Guevara March, daughter of Che, spoke..

I met Wayne Price once.

He's an old platformist anarcho-Trot from (what formerly was) NEFAC. I guess he's a big deal in the US east coast anarchist scene. Published a book or two I think.

I've met someone who's met the guy in my avatar, Anton Nilson, who in turn was in the russian revolution and met most of the old guard of the bolsheviks, including zinoviev, trotsky, lenin and stalin. He got a leather jacket from trotsky. Yeah I know. I've also met the two former leaders of the Left Party if that counts for anything...

to be fair, we're mentioning the widows of dutch council communists as "celebrities" in this thread; hollywood liberals aren't getting a look in.

Met Boots Riley at Occupy Oakland. Shook his hand and told him I'm a big fan.

Also met this old guy from the Peace and Freedom Party at a protest against a pig killing someone. Don't know his name or how "famous" he is but I've seen him enough times in videos representing the PFP that I immediately recognized him. Didn't really talk much, just about how unjust what had just happened was.

o well this is ok I guess

Of course you did!

One of my favorite books, that I read a long time ago, was Krúpskaya's Reminiscences of Lenin (which is a heck of a lot easier to spell in Russian, Vospominaniya Lenina, approximately), which is a book I loved, and in that book, or maybe some other, I seem to remember reading that Lenin had, in fact, met Kropotkin when Kropotkin was very elderly, and Lenin saw to it that Prince Kropotkin was well-treated. I think it is possible that they did meet, since Kropotkin died in 1921 and Lenin, in 1924).

Around 1970 or 1971, I met the SWP's philosophy expert and published author in that field, George Novack. He gave a lecture in Washington DC, when I lived in northern Virginia, across the Potomac. I saw the veteran workers' leader and Teamsters' activist Farrell Dobbs at the SWP's 1969 Convention in New York City, which I attended.
