guy is fucking annoying
hRVOOwFNp5U
angsty petty bourgeois teenager 'RAGGES!' about new mainstream music about drugs and sex. I facepalmed at the part he raps "why can't black people evolve?" when complaining about how black people drug deal because they're lazy and "idolize rappers who talk about money, sex and blah blah blah". when I hear people tell me "yo man, this is real hip-hop", I cringe.

yeah hospin is terrible. my favorite thing is how he had that track about tyler the creator and his whole "lol no gimiix" thing when he all sorts of gimmicky too

Not a fan either. Hopsin seems like the kinda guy who sees a Lil B video on youtube, takes it completely serious and writes a wall of text in the comment section about how mainstream hip-hop poisons everything.

yea. hopsin is preachy as fuck and doesn't really know what he's talking about but thinks that he does.

One of the corniest rappers out there, like in every way possible. The only way he could be worse is if he turned out to be a cop like Rick Ross.

Lil B > Hopsin.
I know it's irrelevant, I'm just sayin'.

Of course. Lil B is post-music. He has ascended the limitations of the medium, what he does is so much more.
REEL HIP HOP is fucking boring. When I listen to hip hop I want to hear cool music I can get blunted to, hear some clever lyrics, maybe get a cool story. I do not want to be preached at.

To add to the fire, he's a big Illuminate conspiracy nut and started his career by playing cameo roles in Disney shows. lol at this person, the sad part is that he's a 100% serious

it's ironic how hopsin made fun of tyler because he is the subproduct of the whole OF bandwagon. now hordes of middle class (and most, white) buy 25$ shirts, tag their names in bathrooms and seemingly have the license to be annoying dicks

I stopped liking Hop after this track came out. My friend is a fan so I listened to Hop's first album and his Haywire mixtape with SwizZz... This track is just preachy and terrible. He's such a condescending fuck, yet he doesn't know what he's talking about.
This whole song= "Why isn't everyone else great like me... so frustrating."

Man I'm not even an enthusiast of the whole OF phenomenon but there's no real argument as whether or not Tyler is a better artist than Hopsin. I mean Tyler I feel like is an artist that has a certain potential but has failed to release a truly remarkable record. Hopsin is just an enterprising attention seeker who says stupid things and says stupid things about and to other people to try to catch the glances of a few eyes.

I don't exactly understand why the left is so willing to defend music that idolizes money, subjugation of women, excessive drinking/ drug usage ect.
Don't get me wrong anybody who believes that this is about race rather personal interest is a complete tool but I think you see my point.

I think the left defends it because they 'like the beat'. Idek. Guys like Hopsin and Tech N9ne though have much deeper content and subject matter than that. Yet the left has hopped all over these guys in this thread.
And anyone that doesn't like this song needs to be sent to a Gulag http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUwMgv8xJW8&feature=related

Personally I loath this kind of music and just fail to see a deeper meaning in it. I see nothing wrong with enjoying music for what it is but I guess when we are able to identify the fact that it spreads harmful ideas and we simply choose not to stop listening it should raise a red flag for more people than it does. (no pun intended:laugh:)

Art for art's sake. Nobody who's opinion on art matters in my mind listens to music for the sole purpose of having their world view validated. Do you know what sort of cultures did away with art for art's sake? Medieval Catholic Europe, Mussolini's Italy, Mao's China. None of which had artistic cultures that actually reflected or expressed the condition of ordinary people.
You don't have to like rappers like Waka Flocka or Gucci Mane, but recognize that they express the values of hedonism and hoodrich entrepreneurism that made them who they are very efficiently. Besides, art is communication, and their art communicates those things outstandingly well, and they make exactly the sort of music they want to make really fucking well.

I would argue that negative ideas are spread through Hopsin's works. Ill Mind of Hopsin 5, for example, sends some positive messages.

Both are conventionally "lyrical" rappers who are technically competent but make fucking corny music.

I have to agree with Vladimir Makarov. I've seen lots of people here recommend Flocka and Chief Keef, degrading women and rapping about killing for money, or OF rapping about raping women and shit.
You can't even say the word "*****" on this forum, but this is ok?
Rationalizing it by saying it's such a pure form of "rags to riches" ghetto art, sounds elitest to me. "This ignorant hoodrat shit is understandable coming from the uneducated peasants. Let's bask in it."

When did "good music" become artists putting on a character and parodying some "extreme"? Did this norm exist in previous eras?
If these artists don't take themselves seriously than what is the point their art? Can you really have an emotional connection to a piece of art when the artist doesn't even give a shit? Isn't art about having some kind of connection? It's gotta be a 2-way street imo.

It's not that Hopsin is "too intelligent" or "lyrical". It's that he's a condesending bore. He does nothing but diss other people for the most trivial reasons, alot of the time reasons he's guilty of himself (like being gimmicky or negative, I mean all you do is whine brah!).
Compare him with Kendrick Lamar who is "intelligent" as well but not in a condesending way. He has good beats, sideaffect of working with Dre, and his lyrics ammount to more than shouting "grow the fuck up!" at a strawman. Alot of times his critizing himself, which makes the songs have alot more impact.
Plus he doesn't come across as superinsecure because he doesn't go around dissing people for trivial reasons.

I rationalise it by saying that a man's ideas are the most direct emanation of his material state. My boy K-Money taught me that.
If you don't listen to rap with this lyrical content that must mean you don't listen to NWA, Biggie, Tupac, Nas, Wu-Tang, Eminem, MF Doom, Jay-Z, Kanye West, etc basically all the best artists and nearly everyone else that has ever rapped. I mean I'm pretty sure Hopsin has homophobic lyrics and sexist lyrics. You can't really listen to anybody except Lupe Fiasco. And that's not a good way to live.
Some guy said criticising Hopsin makes you seem like you like Wiz Khalifa, tbh there's a few Wiz songs that I like, I do like a lot of mainstream rappers. I also like a lot of more independent and experimental stuff. But Hopsin is just an average rapper going over mostly weak beats with useless content, there's nothing really interesting about his music and he is an annoying dick, I don't see anything to like.
